I'll Always Be There - 2

Chapter Nine

        Nikolas walked towards the docks, lost in thought. He was still
confused from his conversation with Lucky. He knew that it was at least
partly his fault that Lucky had decided to work for Helena. He couldn't
help but feel guilty. And Lucky had left him with so many questions that he
needed answers to. Like that crack about his uncle. Also, when Lucky said
that Lau...their mother loved him, it wasn't as hard to believe as when
Laura said it. Maybe because he knew that Lucky wouldn't admit to their
mother having any affection for him at all if it weren't true. Lucky had
always gone out of his way to make Nikolas feel that their mother hadn't
wanted him. For him to say that she had...well that changed a lot of
things.

        Nikolas got to the dock. He just had a feeling that this was where
the meeting was going to take place. He looked around for a suitable hiding
place and had just gotten himself hidden when Helena showed up. Nikolas
watched her, still surprised at how much fear and anger could come from
just seeing her. This was the woman that would get control of him at any
cost. This was the woman that wouldn't hesitate to take the lives of all
the people he held dear to him. God, how he despised her!

        Lucky arrived at the dock just then. Helena's back was to him and
she didn't notice him for a little while. He looked around, smelling
something. He saw something out of the corner of his eye, just as Helena
turned and saw him.

        "Mrs. Cassadine." He said as he silently cursed to himself. "Damn
it, Nikolas what the hell are you thinking?"

        "Ah, young Mr. Spencer. I was beginning to wonder if you were going
to show up."

         "I said I'd be here didn't I? So here I am."

        "Well my first test was to see if you were as talented as your
father in penetrating Wyndemere's defenses. How did you fare?"

        "I got what you wanted. One hand carved chess piece from the set in
Nikolas' room." Nikolas started. Lucky had been in his room!?! When? He
hadn't even noticed anything missing. Lucky held the piece out to Helena.

        "Very good Lucky. I am impressed." Helena said. She didn't take the
piece.

       "Don't you want it?" Lucky asked. He wanted this meeting over as
soon as possible. The last thing he needed was Helena to find out that
Nikolas was spying on them. He didn't have to worry about that.

        "No, you can keep it, or give it back, or whatever you see as
fitting.'' She turned to leave.

        "Hey," Lucky said. "What do you want me to do next."

        Helena pointed to the bag she had left near his feet. "In that bag
there is a cell phone and various other things that will come in handy.
When I need you to perform your next task, I'll call you." With that she
left.

        Lucky stood for a while watching her leave. When she was finally
out of sight he relaxed. He then heard Nikolas say from behind him, "Lucky,
I need to talk to you."

Chapter Ten

        Lucky turned and acted surprised as he said, "Spying, Cassadine?"

        "Sure," Nikolas said. " You don't think that Spencers are the only
ones that can be sneaky do you?

        "Well, actually," Lucky said. "To be honest... I knew you were
there. I just didn't think that telling Helena would be a good idea."

        "How did you know? I thought that I had done well in concealing
myself." Nikolas said surprised. He had been sure that he had been
completely hidden.

        "Hey don't feel bad. I wouldn't have survived long if I hadn't
learned to spot trouble. Danger always seemed to follow us, either in the
form of the mob or the Cassadines. I had to know how to fend for myself, in
order to survive. Anyway, you're an amateur. Your feet were showing, and
man I hate to tell you this, but I smelled ya before I saw ya. What kind of
cologne is that anyway?" Lucky said with a grin. "I recognized it from this
morning."

        "Very funny Lucky." Nikolas said amused. He realized that he had a
lot to learn about this kind of thing, whereas Lucky had grown up having to
hide from people and know when there was somebody watching him. He wondered
what it must have been like for him to grow up on the run. Always in
danger, a lot of which came from HIS family. "No wonder he hates me,"
Nikolas thought. "He spent his whole life without a home because of my
family, and I just destroyed the one thing that he could really hold on to.
His family." He was so absorbed in his thoughts that it took him a second
to realize that Lucky was holding something out to him. It was the chess
piece.

        "I wonder, did you even realize that it was gone?" Lucky asked,
still smiling.

        "No, I hadn't," Nikolas said. "And would you mind telling me when
exactly you were in my room? How did you get past the guards?"

        "A Spencer never reveals his secrets. My dad taught me how to do a
lot of things, this is the least of them. It was actually pretty easy to
get into Wyndemere. You should really have your security checked out."

        "Pretty impressive, Lucky, But breaking and entering IS against the
law you know."

        "Only if you get caught," Lucky said, laughing.

        "Okay, okay enough of this. We have important matters to discuss."

        "What do you want to talk about?"

        "Well, first off, I must advise you against this alliance with
Helena. She is very dangerous Lucky, to you and your family."

        "Look Nikolas, I can take care of myself. Don't worry. I know what
I'm doing."

        "Do you really? I wonder. She's very manipulative Lucky and she
knows how to hurt the people who cross her."

        "Whatever. I know all that, and I still tell you that I can handle
this. Just relax, man. Everything's cool."

        Nikolas realized that he wouldn't get anywhere with that
conversation so he decided to ask about the thing that was really bothering
him. "What did you mean by that crack about my uncle? What does he have to
do with Laura leaving?"

        "I don't really know Nik. I just overheard them talking one night,
right before she decided to leave. He said that she had better leave or
else he would tell Luke everything. It didn't sound like Luke would be
happy about whatever it was. Then the next day she said that she had
decided to go. That's all I know."

        "You have no idea what they were talking about?"

        "No, but I don't think that anyone would be too happy about what it
was. You'll have to ask your uncle if you want anymore information. "

        "I think I'll do that right now. Oh and don't worry. I won't tell a
soul about our conversation in the park. It will remain between us."

        "Thanks Nikolas, and good luck." Lucky picked up the bag from
Helena and they went their separate ways unaware that the whole time they
were being watched.

        ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
        "Good," Helena said to herself as she watched Nikolas and Lucky
discuss something without fighting. That could only mean one thing.
"They're becoming friends. It is almost time to begin with phase two of my
plan." She smiled to herself. "You'll be mine soon, Nikolas, and you'll
never get away again."
Chapter Eleven
        Lucky had only gone a short way when he realized that he wanted to
know what Nikolas found out from his uncle. He turned around and ran to
catch up with him.
        ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

        Nikolas hurried along on his way to Wyndemere. He had to find out
what Stefan had used against his mother to get her to leave. The mere fact
that he had had a part in her leaving made him angry, now he just wanted to
know why. He was so absorbed in his thoughts that he didn't see Emily
walking towards him until she said, "Nikolas! How are you? It's been so
long."

        "Hi Em!" He said, happy to see her. "I've been okay. Sorry that
it's been so long, but some things came up. You heard right? That I broke
up with Sarah?"

        "No, I hadn't," Emily said, sorry that things hadn't worked out
between them but also happy that she might have a chance with him now. "I'm
sorry."

        "Well I guess it just wasn't meant to be. Anyway what are you up to?"

        "I don't know, things have been a little crazy at home, with
Michael's kidnapping and the whole strike thing. I decided that I just had
to get out. I was just about to take a walk in the park. Would you like to
join me?"

        "I can't Emily," Nikolas said, thinking that he would like to, but
that he HAD to see his uncle as soon as possible to talk to him about his
meeting with Lucky, and Lucky's meeting with Helena. "But you shouldn't go
alone. Why don't you wait and we'll go tomorrow." He didn't want to tell
Elizabeth's secret, but he also didn't want Emily walking alone in the park.

        "Why not?" Emily said a little amused that Nikolas thought that the
park was dangerous. "It's just the park. I've walked alone there hundreds
of times. Nothing's ever happened."

        "Em, I really don't have a lot of time, but trust me, the park
isn't as safe as it seems."

        "What makes you say that?"

        "I can't tell you why Em, just trust me."

        "Come on Nikolas, your starting to make me nervous. What's the
matter with the park? You must have heard something."

        "Em, I promised I wouldn't say. Just believe me when I say that the
park isn't safe."

        Just then they heard a voice come from behind them, "He's right,
Em. The park isn't safe."

        Emily and Nikolas turned to see Lucky standing behind them. "Hey,
Lucky!" Em said. "Long time, no see."

        "Yeah, well I've had a few things on my mind, not that that's any
excuse. I should have come to see you. How's Michael?"

        "Good. So why are you two so against the park. You've never said
anything before. What makes it so unsafe now?"

        Lucky and Nikolas looked at each other, both at a loss of what to
tell her. Emily was shocked to see them share a look like that. The last
time she had seen them, they had hated each other. They had barely been
able to stand looking at each other, but here they were exchanging looks as
if there was no anger between them. She was so shocked that the question
she had just asked seemed insignificant compared to the one she asked next.
"What happened between you two? You seem almost friendly. You're even
agreeing on something. What happened?"

        "Nikolas and I have been talking," Lucky said simply. "We've
discussed a few things and we're beginning to see that well..."

        "We're beginning to see that not all things are what they seem."
Nikolas finished for him. "It's too complicated to go into right now but,"
he looked questioningly at Lucky who nodded. "But soon we will tell you the
whole story. Right now I HAVE to go see my Uncle. Do you have time to walk
her home?" He asked Lucky.

        "Yeah," Lucky said. "I don't have to meet Elizabeth for another
hour and a half. Emily I think it's better if you go home now. Just trust
us. It's not safe for you to be alone in the park."

        "Okay, Lucky, Nikolas. I'll trust you for now, but I hope that
you'll tell me what's going on soon. Nikolas, I'll see you later. Give me a
call when you have time?"

        "I will, Em. Goodbye, Lucky."

        "Bye, Nikolas. Oh and Nikolas?" Lucky said.

        "Yeah?" Nikolas said.

        "Tell me what you find out okay? I have a right to know too."

        Nikolas nodded. "I'll let you know what I hear."

Chapter Twelve

        Lucky and Emily started towards the Quartermaines and Nikolas
headed home to face his uncle.

        Emily was still feeling shocked. It was like having stepped into
the twilight zone. Lucky and Nikolas as friends was something she had never
expected to see but at the moment they seemed like they were just about
there. "It's about time!" she thought to herself. "Maybe now I can do
things with both of them without worrying what the other will think."

        "So, Lucky. What have you been up to? You said that you were going
to see Lizzie. How is she? I haven't seen her in school in ages."

        "She's okay," Lucky said evasively. "She just hasn't been feeling
very well lately." He quickly changed the subject. "So how are things for
you. You must be so happy to have Michael back safe. I still can't believe
that Tony would do something like that."

        Emily was a little surprised at how quickly he changed the subject.
"Oh, everything is fine. The family is starting to get a little hard to
bear though. That's why I had to get out. So, Lucky, when are you going to
tell me what's going on?"

        "Why do you think something's going on?"

        "Okay, one you're talking to Nikolas Cassadine, two you don't want
me walking in the park alone, three, you're evading all of my question.
Should I go on?"

        "I can't explain it right now, Em. I want to, but there are certain
parts that,... well they're not mine to tell. You understand right? I swear
that as soon as I get it all figured out, I'll let you know. Just swear to
me that you won't go walking in the park alone!" They had just reached the
Quartermaines and they were standing in front of the door.

        "Lucky?"

        Lucky looks her straight in the eyes, and the importance of what he
was saying showed in his tone of voice. "Just promise me! Please, Em! It's
very important."

        "Okay, Lucky I promise." Emily said, realizing that whatever it was
that made him so nervous was very serious.

        "Look Em, I've got to go. Take care. I'll see you soon." He rushed
off before she could ask anymore questions, leaving Emily staring after him
completely confused by the whole conversation.

        "What was that all about?" Emily started as she heard a voice from
behind her. She turned to find Monica coming up to the door. "That looked
like a very intense conversation."

        "I don't know what's going on." Emily said completely confused. "I
feel like I'm dreaming."

        "Let's go inside and you can tell me about it." Monica said,
worried about her.

        "Okay."

        They walked into the house and sat down on the couch.

        "I just had the most unusual experience. It started out pretty
normal. I was going for a walk and I ran into Nikolas. He seemed
preoccupied but we talked for a little while. He told me that he had broken
up with Sarah, and then I asked him to go for a walk in the park with me.
That's when things started to get weird."

        "Weird how?" Monica asked.

        "Well, he told me that he couldn't go but that I shouldn't walk in
the park alone. I told him that I had done it hundreds of times, but he
seemed really worried about my going to the park alone. Then Lucky came up
and agreed with him. They were getting along, mom and they actually seemed
to almost LIKE each other. Neither of them would tell me why I shouldn't go
to the park. What you saw, when I was talking to Lucky was him making me
promise not to walk in the park alone. I have a feeling that something bad
happened to someone in that park, I just don't know who, or what it has to
do with Nikolas and Lucky."

        "Honey, I haven't heard about anything happening in the park, but
if they sound that serious, they must know something, so next time you want
to go to the park, bring someone with you, okay?"

        "Sure, Mom, but I'd really like to know what's going on."

Chapter Thirteen

        Nikolas arrived a Wyndemere and headed directly to his uncle's
study. He walked in and was relieved to see that his uncle was there.
"Uncle we have to talk."

        "What is it Nikolas? I'm in the middle of something."

        "Well it will just have to wait, Uncle, because this is important."

        Stefan was shocked, this sounded serious.

        ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
        Lucky finished getting ready for his date with Elizabeth. He had
planned to ask her on the date even before the kiss. He had set up Bobbie's
cabin because he knew that she would be more comfortable without a lot of
people around. "I hope she likes it," he thought to himself. He had spent a
long time making it look just right. He was grateful to his aunt yet again
that she had allowed him to move into the cabin after Tony had been
arrested. He couldn't go home and after finding out that she supported Luke
he couldn't live with Bobbie anymore. He knew that she only let him live
there because that was the only way that she would know where he was, but
he was grateful just the same.
        ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

At Wyndemere

        "What's this about Nikolas?"

        "It's about Lucky."

        "Oh?"

        "I saw him in the park today, and I have to say that a lot of
things changed while we were talking."

        "What kind of things?"

        "Well I finally understand why Lucky behaved as he did the day I
told him about Luke, and now I really wish that I hadn't told him."

        Stefan was surprised. "Would you care to enlighten me as to the
reason for your change of heart?"

        "I will, but you must swear that you will tell no one, not even
Katherine. Lucky told me that he would kill me if I told, and..."

        "What? The boy will pay for that." How dare he threaten Nikolas in
that way? Stefan thought to himself.

        "Uncle, relax. I totally agree that it is not a secret to be told
lightly, and Lucky will have every right to be angry with me if he learns
that I told you. I am in total support of his defense of this secret."

        "As you wish," Stefan said. "I promise not to reveal this secret."

        "Thank you, Uncle. Anyway, the thing that changed my view on this
matter is the fact that when I told Lucky of his father's less then savory
act, I was unaware that one of his friends had recently been raped."

        "What?" Stefan said. That did explain a lot, including Nikolas'
newfound sympathy for Lucky.

        "She was raped in the park the night of the school's Valentine's
Dance. Lucky was the one who found her and the on that has been helping her
to get through everything that has been happening since. When he attacked
me he was merely reacting to the anger he felt towards her attacker, and
his anger against the person he had been brought up to believe had raped
his mother. Another reason that I wish I hadn't told him is that this
knowledge and the anger it caused him to have towards his father, has
driven him into and alliance that is dangerous not only to him and the
Spencers, but potentially to us as well."

        "An alliance? With who?" Stefan said not being able to think of a
person that Lucky would deal with that would be a threat to them.

        Nikolas paused before saying with all the hatred he felt for his
grandmother. "Helena Cassadine."

        ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
        Lucky hurried up to Lizzie's door. He was dressed up but not too
much. He never got much beyond exchanging his regular outfit with nice
jeans, a nice shirt and a sports jacket. He rang the doorbell and waited
eagerly for it to open.
        ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Back at Wyndemere

        "Helena!? I can't believe that he would actually talk to Helena,
let alone join with her. Do his parents know?"

        "I have no idea, Uncle, but since you mentioned them, I have
another question to ask."

        "Yes?"

        "I was wondering, just what is it that you have on my mother that
would force her to leave Port Charles? And why don't you tell me why you
wanted her to leave in the first place?"

Chapter Fourteen

        "Uncle? I asked you a question. Why, when you knew how much it hurt
me for her to leave me behind, did you make her leave?" Nikolas asked, his
pain apparent.

        "What gives you the idea that I had anything to do with her
leaving?" Stefan asked, praying that he didn't have a good reason. "Have
you been taking to Helena again?"

        "Uncle, don't try to deny it. Lucky overheard the two of you
talking, and then she suddenly decided that she would go along with Luke. "

        "He overheard us?" Stefan said his heart skipping a beat.

        "Yes, he heard you tell her to leave or else you'd tell Luke some
secret. He didn't hear what it was but I want to know."

        Stefan relaxed when he realized that Lucky hadn't heard what the
argument had been about. "He must have misunderstood," Stefan said. "I
merely told her that it would be better for you if she left as her husband
wished."

        "Somehow, Uncle, I don't believe you, but then you've lied to me
all my life. Why should I expect you to stop now," Nikolas said feeling a
glimmer of satisfaction as a flash of pain crossed his uncle's face. "It's
funny how I blamed Laura for letting Luke and Lucky convince her to leave,
when all along it had more to do with you, than with them." He turned to
leave.

        "Nikolas, you actually believe Lucky Spencer over me?" Nikolas
stopped and faced his uncle, whose pain at his words was obvious.

        "Lucky understands what it's like to be lied to by the people who
mean the most to him. He realizes the importance of the truth, which is
more than I can say about you." With that Nikolas left. He walked out of
Wyndemere and headed for the launch. He had no idea where he was going to
go but there was no way that he was staying at Wyndemere.

        ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Elizabeth's House
        Lucky knocked on the door and it was opened a moment later by
Audrey. "Mrs. Hardy," Lucky said. "How are you?"
        "I'm just fine, Lucky. Come in and sit down, Liz will be down in a
moment."
        Lucky walked in and sat on the couch.
        "So, Lucky, what will you and Elizabeth be doing tonight. She
mentioned that you were going out but she didn't say what you were going to
do."
        "She doesn't know. It's a surprise. " Just then Liz came down the
stairs. "And I'd love to tell you but that would ruin the surprise."
        "What surprise?" Elizabeth asked as she came into the living room.
        "Your's," Lucky said as he got to his feet. She was so beautiful.
She had on a long dress, and her hair was up.
        He was staring at her, so she looked down. "Am I overdressed. You
didn't tell me where we were going, so..."
        "No, you look perfect." Lucky said, happy at the sudden smile that
flashed across her face at his compliment. "But then, you'd look beautiful
in anything."
        "Thanks, Lucky. Well, I'm ready." She went to get her coat and
Lucky turned to Audrey. "If you need to get in touch with us, here's a
number where you can reach us." he said handing her a slip of paper.
        "Why, thank you, Lucky."
        "Well, I don't want you to worry. I'll have her home by eleven, and
we'll call if we run into traffic or anything."
        "Have a good time, Elizabeth." Audrey said, relieved at how happy
Lizzie was. Why she was practically glowing.
        "Thanks, Gram," Lizzie said, giving her a hug. "I'll see you tonight."
        Lucky and Lizzie left and got into Lucky's car. (I know I haven't
mentioned a car before and I don't even know if he has a license, but I
decided why not? He just has one now because,...well, because I said so :-)
        Audrey watched them leave, glad that Lizzie had found her support
in such a reliable young man. He was just what she needed right now.
        "So, Lucky, where are we going now?"
        "No way. You're not getting it out of me that easy. It's a
surprise, but I think you'll like it."
Chapter Fifteen
        Lucky and Liz drove up to the cabin. "What is this place?" Lizzie
asked.
        "It's my aunts cabin. She's letting me stay here because I won't go
home." Lucky said.
        "Oh," Liz said, feeling sad that he was so distant from his family.
        "Hey," Lucky said, noticing that she seemed sad. "No depressing
stuff tonight. No talk of families, attackers or other unpleasant things.
We are here with only one purpose, and that is to have fun and enjoy each
others company. Okay?"
        "Okay!" Lizzie said and she started to get out of the car.
        "Wait a minute, wait a minute!" Lucky said jumping out of the car
and running around to the other side. Lizzie watched him amused. He opened
the door for her and helped her out of the car. He led her onto the porch,
but stopped when they reached the door. "Okay, would you prefer a
blindfold, or can I trust you to cover your eyes?"
        "Why do I need to cover my eyes?" Liz asked surprised. He was so sweet!
        "Well, there are a few finishing touches that I have to do before
you see the place. I want your first sight of it to be perfect." Lucky said
biting his lip.
        "Okay," Lizzie said. "I promise that I will cover my eyes until you
tell me it's okay to look."
        "No peeking."
        Liz gave a little sigh, "And I promise not to peek. Now can we go
in?" She covered her eyes. Lucky looked at her carefully before opening the
door and leading her in. "Okay, you stand right there for just a few
seconds." Lucky then rushed around the room. He lit all the candles that he
had set up around the room and pushed play on the stereo. He had made a
special tape of slow songs just for this night. He walked over to Liz as
the song, Remember Me This Way, from the movie Casper, started to play.
                Every now and then
                We find a special friend
                Who never lets us down
        "You can open your eyes now," Lucky said softly. Liz opened her
eyes and looked around. "Oh, Lucky it's wonderful," she said.
                Who understands it all
                Reaches out each time you fall
                You're the best friend that I've found
        He had set up a table for two in the middle of the room. The cabin
was lit entirely by candlelight. There were flowers on the table.
                I know you can't stay
                A part of you will never ever go away
                Your heart will stay
        "I thought you'd like it," Lucky said as he led her over to the table.
                I'll make a wish for you
                And hope it will come true
                That life would just be kind
                To such a gentle mind
                If you lose your way
                Think back on yesterday
                Remember me this way
                Remember me this way
        "Don't worry," Lucky said, as he pulled her chair out for her. "I
didn't cook myself, I had it catered."
                I don't need eyes to see
                The love you bring to me
                No matter where I go
        "Oh, from where?" Liz asked, as Lucky went into the kitchen.
                And I know that you'll be there
                Forever more a part of me, you're everywhere
                I'll always care
        "Well, you seemed to like the ribs from that restaurant we went to
so much that I decided to get you some from there." He said as he went and
got two plates out of the oven.
                I'll make a wish for you
                And hope it will come true
                That life would just be kind
                To such a gentle mind
                If you lose your way
                Think back on yesterday
                Remember me this way
                Remember me this way
        He placed one of the plates in front of her and the other where he
would be sitting. He looked at her. He noticed that she was crying. "Lizzie
what's wrong?"
                And I'll be right behind your shoulder watching you
                I'll be standing by your side and all you do
                And I won't ever leave
                As long as you believe
                You just believe
        Lizzie got up and hugged him, "Well, now Lucky, You can't do
something this sweet and not expect a girl to get teary-eyed...Lucky, I
will never forget this night as long as I live. Thank you."
                I'll make a wish for you
                And hope it will come true
                That life would just be kind
                To such a gentle mind
                If you lose your way
                Think back on yesterday
                Remember me this way
                Remember me this way
        Lucky held her close and wished that he could just hold her
forever, just as the next song started playing. It explained just how he
felt about her and his family at that moment.
                As long as you hold me, I'll get by.
                As long as you need me, I will try...not to die.
                I don't want the shame, I don't want the blame,
                I don't want the fame, anymore.
                If only they'd tell me tell me why.
                If I could believe them and their lies
                But I don't want their name, I don't want their pain,
                I won't play their games, anymore.
        "Lizzie, I have to tell you, I think that I'm already beyond
falling in love with you," Lucky said leaning back to look deeply into her
eyes. "The way I'm feeling right now, well, I'd have to say, I'm all the
way there. I love you, Lizzie." Lizzie started to cry even harder.
        "I love you too, Lucky." They just stood there silently, holding
each other and swaying gently to the music for what seemed like an
eternity. "I love you too."
Chapter Sixteen
        They reluctantly let go of each other and sat down at the table to
eat their meal. It was wonderful. Liz could barely believe what was
happening. She sat just looking at Lucky, who started to feel uncomfortable
under her watchful eyes. "What?" he said, a little embarrassed.
        "I was just wondering how I got to be so lucky. You have to be the
best friend that I've ever had, and I don't know of anything that I've ever
done, my entire life that makes me deserve a friend like you."
        "Liz, you're way too hard on yourself. Your smart, funny,
beautiful. You know how to have a good time. You're sweet and just all
around wonderful. As a matter of fact, I was just commenting to myself,
that I'm lucky in more ways than my name. I'm lucky in having found a
person as wonderful as you to call my friend." Liz smiled at him. Neither
one of them was quite sure of what to say next. A few minutes passed when
all that they did was eat.  Then out of nowhere Lucky said, "Liz, would you
like to dance?"
        "I'd like that," Liz said with a shy smile.
        They got up just as I'll Stand By You by The Pretenders came on.
(This is the song beyond all others that I feel demonstrates their
relationship. I think it accurately portrays how they feel about each
other.) They walked to the center of the room and held each other close as
they began to dance to the music.
                Oh, Why you look so sad?
                The tears are in your eyes
                Come on and come to me now
                But don't be ashamed to cry
                Let me see you through
                Cause I've seen the dark side too.
                When the night falls on you
                You don't know what to do
                Nothing you confess
                could make me love you less
        Liz rested her head on Lucky's chest, loving the feel of his arms
around her. Lucky laid his cheek against the top of her head, barely able
to believe how much he cared for this girl.
                I'll stand by you
                I'll stand by you
                Won't let nobody hurt you
                I'll stand by you
        "Liz, I would do anything in the world for you. Don't ever doubt
that, and don't ever forget it," he said softly as they danced. "Anything
that you need, just ask, and I'll do it in a heartbeat."
                So,
                 If your mad, get mad
                Don't hold it all inside
                Come on and talk to me now
                But hey, what you've got to hide
                I get angry too
                But I'm a lot like you
                When you're standing at the crossroads
                Don't know which path to choose
                Let me come along
                Cause even if your wrong...
        "You have no idea how much that means to me Lucky," Liz said, just
as softly, leaning back to look into his beautiful blue eyes. "And I hope
that you realize that the same thing goes for you. Anything in the world
Lucky, anything."
                I'll stand by you
                I'll stand by you
                Won't let nobody hurt you
                I'll stand by you
                Take me in into your darkest hour
                And I'll never desert you
                I'll stand by you
                 And when,
                When the night falls on you baby
                Your feeling all alone
                Walking on your own
        "I know, Liz," Lucky said, holding her gaze. "And that means the
world to me."
                I'll stand by you
                I'll stand by you
                Won't let nobody hurt you
                I'll  stand by you
                Take me in into your darkest hour
                And I'll never desert you
                I'll stand by you
                I'll stand by you
                Won't let nobody hurt you
                I'll stand by you
                Won't let nobody hurt you
                I'll stand by you
                I'll stand by you
                Won't let nobody hurt you
        Liz laid her head on Lucky's chest once again and they held each
other close, neither wanting the night to end. They danced as song after
song played on the stereo, lost in their own world.
        Before they knew it, it was getting close to eleven. The night had
passed so quickly, but Liz had loved every minute of it. She couldn't
believe how extraordinary this guy was.
        "Well," Lucky said. "I guess that it's about time for us to go. I
promised Audrey that I'd get you home by eleven and I don't think that it
would be a good idea to take you home late on the first date."
        "I know," Liz said as they broke apart. "I just feel so happy right
now. I don't want tonight to end."
        Lucky took her hand and they were about to open the door to leave
when somebody knocked on the door. Lucky and Liz looked at each other. They
had no idea who it could be. Lucky cautiously opened the door and was
shocked to see Nikolas standing on the other side.
        "Hey, Lucky, Liz," Nikolas said cautiously. "I don't mean to
interrupt. Lucky, Bobbie told me where I could find you. There are a number
of things that we need to discuss."
