Nadia made her way slowly
off the airplane and into the airport.
She was so nervous. She had no idea what to expect, and she had never
thought that she would get this opportunity. She was going to meet
her
parents, her birth parents, for the first time. Sure, she had been
told
about them, but she still knew very little about them, other than the
fact
that up until very recently her mother had thought that she was dead,
and
her father hadn't even known that she existed. She had been well cared
for
and loved by the family that had taken her in, but she had always known
that she belonged somewhere else, with people totally different from
the
ones that had raised her. She had always felt like something was missing
and that feeling became more profound every time that Alexis had visited,
bringing her news of her family. She had wanted so badly to know them!
Nikolas with his dark, brooding eyes! Lucky with his fun, mischievous
smile! And Lulu! When Lesley Lu had been born Alexis had made a special
trip to see Nadia. She had come as soon as she had been able to obtain
picture's of the little angel. She could still remember the joy of
that
day, seeing her baby sister for the first time, even if it was only
in a
picture. She would see her for real today! Nadia wanted so badly to
meet
her parents. Fun and sarcastic Luke and sweet and sensitive Laura.
Two
people who had been put on earth to be together. That's what she had
been
told. She looked down at the picture's in her hands. Her family! She
couldn't wait to meet them!
Luke and Laura stood close
to each other, carefully watching the
people exiting the plane. They could hardly believe that they were
going to
be meeting their older daughter for the first time. For Laura, she
was the
daughter that she had thought that she had lost long ago. For Luke
she was
the daughter that he had only just learned existed. Lulu was held tightly
in Laura's arms, excited at the prospect of having a sister. All that
was
missing were Lucky and Nikolas. Nikolas was on both of their minds
at the
moment. His devastation at the knowledge that the man that had always
been
there for him had actually wanted him dead, had been profound, not
that
either of them blamed him. Luke felt his blood boil again as he thought
about all that Stefan had done to Nikolas. The man couldn't have a
soul!
Sure Luke had hated Nik at first, but he had never hidden that, and
he had
never tried to kill him while saying that he loved him. All Luke knew
was
that Stefan had better stay in Greece, far from his family! If Stefan
ever
returned to Port Charles Luke vowed that he'd leave again immediately...in
a body bag!
Luke and Laura saw a young
girl exit the plane and look around the
crowd of people, searching for familiar faces. Luke swore to himself
that
he would have known her anywhere. She was the spitting image of Laura
at
that age, blue eyes and blond hair. She saw them and the three of them
just
stood there staring at each other for an eternity. Slowly they moved
closer. Laura handed Lulu to Luke and swept Nadia into her arms. "Oh,
my
baby," Laura whispered. "My baby. It's really you! I can't believe
that
you're really here." She pulled back and looked into her daughter's
eyes.
"You're really here!"
"Are you Nadia?" Lulu asked
sweetly, her large eyes studying the
girl before her. "You're pretty!"
"Yes, I'm Nadia," Nadia said
moving slowly out of her mother's
embrace to face her father and Lulu. "Thank you very much. You're quite
pretty yourself!" Lulu giggled. "You must be the princess Lesley Lu
that
I've heard so much about. How about giving me a hug?" Lulu nodded and
held
her arms out to Nadia. Luke handed her to Nadia and watched in awe
as his
two daughters embraced. He studied Nadia's face, unable to believe
that
this beautiful young woman in front of him was *his* daughter. He longed
to
hold her in his arms too, but he was unsure how she would react to
that. He
didn't have to worry to long because Lulu came to the rescue with her
strange ability to know just what to say in any situation. "Aren't
you
going to hug daddy too? You hugged mommy and me!"
"We wouldn't want him to
feel left out, now would we," Nadia said.
She looked at Luke. The moment that Luke realized that Nadia wouldn't
object to a hug he pulled her and Lulu close. Both of his daughters
were
with him! Now all he needed were his sons, and then everything would
be
just as it should be! He looked up and reached for Laura, pulling her
into
the hug as well. They stood there for a long time, just holding their
daughters, and feeling awe at the whole situation. They finally released
each other and went to get Nadia's baggage. It was time to take her
home!
They arrived at the Spencer's
and got Nadia settled into the guest
room. It was becoming apparent that they were either going to have
to make
an addition to the house or to buy a new house. They were quickly running
out of room, after all they had four kids now. Four kids! Luke still
couldn't get over the fact that Nikolas and Nadia were his. He was
having a
hard time with this, but he knew that he'd get used to it. Once Nadia
was
settled they sat her down to talk about everything that had happened
recently, and especially what was happening with Lucky and Nikolas
right
then. Upon finding out that she wouldn't be able to meet her brothers
for a
long time because they were on the run from the law, she fought her
disappointment and became determined to help her father find out who
was
framing Lucky. When she heard what Stefan had done to Nikolas she said
simply, "sounds like a Cassadine." Luke couldn't help but think, 'Oh,
she's
my daughter all right!' She was excited about seeing Alexis again and
meeting Alec, who had a very similar history to her. She was exhausted
from
her long journey and went to bed early. Luke and Laura sat up and talked
about everything that was going on. It was so nice to have Nadia there
with
them. They only wished that the boys could be there too.
"Do you think they're all right?" Laura asked quietly.
"I'm sure they are, babe,"
Luke said reassuringly. "Lucky can take
care of himself and Nikolas has all three of them there for support.
They'll be okay, we just have to prove that Lucky didn't kill Murty,
so we
can get them home."
"Then that's what we'll do,"
Laura said determinedly. She finally
had the chance to have her entire family under one roof and she wasn't
about to let some murdering scum stop that from happening.
Chapter Sixty-Three
The teens looked at each
other as the wailing ended. Who was doing
that? It was downright creepy! Darcy went to sit next to Kelsey and
put her
arm around her. She whispered something in Kelsey's ear. Kelsey nodded
and
took a deep shaky breath. "You're right. Guys this is probably just
some
sick joke. Everyone knows what happened here and believe it or not
there
are some people out there that think things like this are funny. It's
stopped and I'm not going to go running all over the house with a butcher's
knife looking for whoever's doing this. I won't give them the
satisfaction," she finished as Darcy broke into laughter. Kelsey gave
her a
funny look as did the other's.
"Kelse, don't tell me you
don't remember!" Darcy said. "Three
summer's ago, you had the knife..."
"And you had the shotgun!"
Kelsey said starting to laugh herself.
"How could I forget! My god, it's a good thing we never told your parents
*that* story!"
"What story is this?" Emily asked, curious.
"Oh, just the time that we
thought that there was an intruder in my
house and we went looking for him armed with an unloaded shotgun and
a
butcher's knife!" Darcy said, still laughing.
"An unloaded shotgun and
a knife? What good would the shotgun do
you if it wasn't loaded?" Lucky asked. He'd rather have a loaded shotgun
himself!
"We figured that they wouldn't
know that and if all else failed we
could always hit them with it," Kelsey said with a smile. "We didn't
really
think that there was anybody, there, well at least I didn't, and even
if
there were it probably would have turned out to be a family member
that we
wouldn't want to shoot!"
"And even if it did happen
to be one that we wanted to shoot, we
would have gotten in deep trouble for doing it," Darcy said. The other's
laughed and Kelsey swatted her on the arm. Darcy just smiled at her.
There
was an element to that smile that the other's caught onto, though Kelsey
didn't. Darcy had successfully taken Kelsey's mind off the sound of
the
crying child.
"So, anyway," Kelsey said.
"I was going to tell you some of the
legends that we have around here. I'll start with some in the area
that are
kind of interesting and end with the one's from this house."
"The first one that I'll
tell you takes place in Bucksport. You
drove through it on you're way here, though I don't know if you'd remember
it. Small town, the last place that you passed with a McDonald's."
Nikolas
and Lucky nodded, but the girls had been asleep then. "Well, the story
goes
that Colonel Jonathan Buck, the founder of the town once sentenced
a woman
to death on the claim that she was a witch. She was supposed to have
been a
beautiful woman who had the misfortune of becoming the mistress of
Colonel
Buck, and that when her beauty began to fade he had her accused of
witchcraft."
"Some even say that he was
the one to carry out the order for her
death." Darcy added.
Kelsey continued. "And all
agree that she used her last breath's to
pronounce a horrifying curse on the Colonel. "Though you may slay me
now,
my colonel," she exclaimed, "I shall come back and dance upon your
gravestone while you roast in hell." The Colonel didn't take this lightly,
nor did his family and it haunted him throughout the remainder of his
life.
Upon his death a great tombstone was erected by his family. They
took
great pains to be sure that the stone was completely unblemished. However
it remained so for only a short time. On the anniversary of the accused
witch's death, a bizarre thing occurred. The image of a woman's dancing
foot and lower leg, first tinged with the color of rust, then with
the
color of bright red blood, began to form on the front surface of the
stone.
Many say that it was paint, put there by prankster's, other's said
that it
was a natural fault in the stone. They tried everything they could
think of
to remove the image. They sanded and scrubbed the stone numerous times,
but the image always returned within hours. The replaced the stone
not only
once, but twice. The image always appeared. They gave up after it appeared
on the third stone. It remains there to this day, a silent reminder
to the
horrors that one human being can inflict on another. It is very plain
to
see. It's kind of a funny sight to see people stop and take pictures
of a
cemetery." (Actual Story)
"Weird," Lizzie said. "Do you believe in it?"
"Naw," Darcy said. "I'm sure
that it's a natural fault in the stone
and that they never replaced the stone."
"*That* I believe!" Lucky said. "There's no such thing as ghosts."
"Oh, there are more," Kelsey
said. "The next one involves an old
house in this area that belongs to a friend of mine. During the Civil
war a
young man that lived in that house joined the Union army. He was gone
for a
long time. Eventually though, he did come home in one piece, well at
least
physically. It is said that the war was so horrible that it left
him
scarred inside as well as out. He would have these fits of intense
anger
when he couldn't control his actions. His family didn't know what to
do.
They used to chain him in the attic in order to keep him from hurting
himself or others. It is said that he died in those chains, and that
he
still remains there. You're supposed to be able to hear the rattling
of his
chains on certain days of the year." (Actual ghost story associated
with
*my* house:-)
"Have you ever heard them?" Nikolas asked.
"No, but my friend swears
that she has. I don't know." Kelsey
smiled. "She is a notorious practical joker though, very similar to
Darcy
here with her trick trying to get people to believe that great grandfather
is still here." Darcy shrugged and grinned sheepishly. It was fun to
try
and get a rise out of people.
"That brings us to the stories
associated with this house. There
are quite a few, but two of the main ones don't date back all that
far. The
most disturbing one dates back to the first owners of the house. This
house
was built by a Sea Captain for his young and ravishingly beautiful
bride.
Their names were Josua and Sarah Gray. They were said to be madly in
love.
On one of his many trips to sea the captain encountered some trouble.
It
was to be expected. His wife waited patiently, watching every so often
from
the widow's walk," she said referring to the tower that extended from
the
roof. "As time past and he didn't return she stayed up there for longer
and
longer periods of time, waiting, waiting, waiting. He didn't come.
Watching, watching, watching. No sign. She was slowly losing hope of
ever
seeing her love again. Then the news came. His ship had come under
attack
by pirates. All aboard were said to have been lost. Sarah was inconsolable.
She wept unable to believe that he was gone. She broke away from those
there to console her and ran to the place where she had spent so much
time
waiting for him. The tower. She opened the door which lead to the balcony
that surrounded it. They tried to stop her, but it was too late. She
threw
herself off the tower. As you can see from how the house is situated,
she
feel directly onto the rocks. She died instantly."
Darcy picked up the story.
"If that had been the end of the tale it
would have been sad, but not quite as disturbing as it is when you
hear
what happened after. Not two days after the Sarah had thrown herself
to her
death, Josua's ship limped it's way into the harbor. They had been
set upon
by pirates but had managed to escape with most of their cargo and crew.
Upon hearing of his wife's death and the reason for it Josua flew into
a
rage, cursing the people that had been unable to stop her from taking
her
own life."
"He might have followed her
to the grave if it weren't for the plea
of his mother, to live for the sake of the child that Sarah had left
behind," Kelsey continued. "The son that Sarah had given birth to only
weeks before she had died. They said that though Josua lived, he wasn't
completely there. It is said that he often spoke as if Sarah was still
in
the house. Also people would come into rooms where they would find
him
talking as if to someone, but there was never anyone in the room. They
thought that he was crazy, that is, until they started to see strange
things happening. They would hear footsteps and no one would be there.
They'd hear someone say their names and then turn to see no one in
the
room, even though they could feel another presence there. It still
happens
every now and again. Whether it's in the imagination or not, it's still
kind of spooky, don't you thing?" The teens nodded. It was a little
spooky
to think about hearing somebody say your name and then turning to find
no
one standing there, even if it was probably only in those people's
imaginations. "As for Josua, he lived as long as he could for his son,
never remarrying. He died when his son was sixteen. Many say that that
was
how long it took for him to die of a broken heart."
"His son was our great great great great grandfather," Darcy finished.
"That's so sad!" Lizzie said.
"They missed happily ever after by
two days!"
"I know," Kelsey said sadly.
"It's a painful story to remember, but
we feel that we have to be sure that we remember to keep hope, even
at our
most hopeless."
"Okay, so what about this
story involving your great grandfather?"
Nikolas asked.
"Ages ago one of my relatives,
maybe even Josua himself, since it
was never really clear how he died, stole a pirates treasure and hid
it
somewhere on our land before being murdered by the pirates. The pirates
searched everywhere but were unable to find it. They stayed too long
and
ended up being captured by the authorities. The leader was executed
for the
murder of my ancestor as were some of the others for various crimes.
All of
them were either killed or imprisoned and they never returned for the
treasure. Over the years everyone in my family has searched for the
treasure, but no one even came close to finding it."
"That's a pretty cool story,"
Lucky said. "But how does that relate
to your great grandfather's ghost?"
"Well, how the story goes,"
Darcy said. "My great grandfather
supposedly found the treasure only days before he died. He is supposed
to
have moved it and written a map leading to the treasure, so that he
could
find it again after securing a way to protect it. Since he died before
he
could retrieve it, the story goes that he is still here guarding the
treasure to ensure that those who retrieve it are, well, us. His children,
grandchildren or great grandchildren."
"Didn't you say he had brother's?
Why wouldn't he want them to get
it. Don't they have as much right to it as you do?" Emily asked.
"No," Darcy said simply.
Kelsey laughed. "What she
means is that our great grandfather's
brother's never had any children. They died young."
"How many brothers did he have?"
"Four brothers and a sister."
"And all of them died young?"
"All of them." Kelsey said
somberly. "My grandfather was the only
one to make it to the age of twenty five. It's a long story, but what
happened has caused a rivalry that goes back generations."
"What kind of rivalry?" Nikolas
asked, exchanging a look with
Lucky. They knew how those things could get out of hand.
"I'd rather not go into it,"
Kelsey said. "I probably shouldn't
even mention it, but I should let you know that not everyone around
here is
going to like the fact that you're living here. Some will probably
even
hate you for it. I just thought that you should know."
Chapter Sixty-Four
They had talked a little
while longer before somberly going to bed.
The stories that Kelsey and Darcy had told had been a little creepy
though
none of them would admit to believing in ghosts. Despite a little spooked,
not to mention a little curious about the rivalry Kelsey had mentioned,
they were determined to get a good nights sleep. It had been a long
couple
of days for everyone.
Nikolas lay in bed and heard
the house go quiet around him. He was
exhausted but there were too many things on his mind for him to be
able to
sleep. All he could think about was his unc...Stefan , and all the
lies
that he had told him. He looked over at the sleeping form of his
brother...His FULL brother. Lucky had tried to help. He had said everything
that he could think of to comfort Nikolas, but nothing had helped.
There
was nothing that anyone could do. The demons belonged to Nikolas, and
he
had to face them alone.
Nikolas stood quietly and
quickly got dressed. He wasn't sure where
he was going to go, but he knew that lying in that bed wasn't helping
him
any. Maybe if he went for a walk it would clear his head. He walked
quietly
to the door and opened it cautiously. He didn't want to disturb anyone.
He
stepped silently into the hall and was about to head downstairs when
he
heard the faint sound of music coming from the other end of the hall.
For
some reason he followed the sound, walking towards it almost as if
in a
trance. It was as if the song was speaking to him. Where was it coming
from?
I wish you would step back from that ledge, my friend
You could cut ties with all the lies
That you've been living in
And if you do not want to see me again
I would understand
I would understand
He came to a flight of stairs,
and it was obvious that they lead to
where ever the music was being played. Nikolas looked around him and
then
slowly climbed to the top of the stairs.
The angry boy, a bit too insane
Icing over a secret pain
You know you don't belong
You're the first to fight
You're way too loud
You're the flash of light
On a burial shroud
I know something's wrong
Well everyone I know has got a reason
To say
Put the past away
Nikolas stopped at the top
of the stairs for a moment and studied
his surroundings. He was now in the attic of the house, but the music
obviously wasn't coming from there. He listened carefully and realized
that
the music was coming from the open door right in front of him.
I wish you would step back from that ledge, my friend
You could cut ties with all the lies
That you've been living in
And if you do not want to see me again
I would understand
I would understand
He walked over too it and
found that the door was to another
staircase. 'This must be the way to the tower,' he thought to himself.
He
paused at the bottom of the stairs, not sure whether or not he should
go up
the stairs. Curiosity got the better of him. He wanted to know who
was up
there, and why they were there. He shook his head slightly. It may
no be
the best idea but...He walked up the stairs into the small tower room,
which was lit quite brightly by the moon. There was a radio playing
and
there was Kelsey, sitting on one of the window seats, where she had
been
staring out at the ocean.
Well, he's on the table
And he's gone to code
And I do not think anyone knows
What they are doing here
And your friends have left
You've been dismissed
I never thought it would come to this
And I
I want you to know
Everyone's got to face down the demons
Maybe today
We can put the past away
Kelsey turned at the sound
of footsteps on the stairs, almost
expecting there to be no one there. She smiled slightly at herself.
That's
what she got for telling ghost stories. She was surprised to see Nikolas
enter the tower room, "There's a storm coming," she said matter of
factly.
"I uh...I heard the music
when I left my room and I wondered where
it was coming from," he said quietly.
Kelsey smiled at the sheepish
look on his face. "I thought that
everyone was asleep," she said softly.
"I couldn't sleep," Nikolas
said. "I was thinking of going for a
walk or something. I'm not even sure why I followed the music, I just
had
too."
"I come here when I need
to think," Kelsey said. "Today brought
back a lot of bad memories for me. What's keeping you up?"
"Demons and lies," Nikolas
said, tears shining in his eyes. "My
entire life. I was raised by a man that I saw as a father, who just
happened to hate me and who was trying to kill me, along with raising
me to
hate the man that turned out to be my father. It's a lot to absorb.
The
lies were all I could see every time I closed my eyes. I was drowning
in
them."
I wish you would step back from that ledge, my friend
You could cut ties with all the lies
That you've been living in
And if you do not want to see me again
I would understand
I would understand
I would understand
Can you put the past away
I wish you would step back from that ledge, my friend
I would understand...
Kelsey looked at Nikolas
the sympathy shining in her eyes. "I can't
even imagine what that must be like for you," she said quietly. She
motioned for him to sit down next to her which he did. "It's going
to be
all right Nikolas," she said quietly, taking his hand. "One day you'll
wake
up and decide that you're not going to let him hurt you anymore. That
you
won't let him control your life. Once you manage that, you'll be okay.
I
can tell that you're a strong person Nikolas, and I know that you'll
survive this. You're a great guy Nikolas. I can tell that after knowing
you
for a day. If the man that raised you couldn't see that after knowing
you
all your life then it's his loss, his problem, not yours!"
Her kind words were more
than Nikolas could handle at that moment
and his tears spilled over. He had kept his emotions carefully in check
all
day, not wanting to lose control. Not wanting to cry over a man that
hated
him. Those thoughts were gone now and all he could feel was the pain.
Kelsey pulled him close and he laid his head on her chest as sobs broke
from him. They were sounds of pure misery and Kelsey felt her heart
break
for him. She laid her head on his and stroked his hair comfortingly.
She
whispered nonsensical words of comfort into his hair, murmuring softly.
She
didn't try to get him to stop, she just let him cry as the radio played
in
the background.
Spend all your time waiting for that second chance
For the break that will make it OK
There's always some reason to feel not good enough
And it's hard at the end of the day
I need some distraction or a beautiful release
Memories seep from my veins
Let me be empty and weightless and maybe
I'll find some peace tonight
In the arms of the Angel far away from here
From this dark, cold hotel room, and the endlessness that
you feel
You are pulled from the wreckage of your silent reverie
You're in the arms of the Angel; may you find some comfort here
So tired of the straight line, and everywhere you turn
There's vultures and thieves at your back
The storm keeps on twisting, you keep on building the lies
That make up for all that you lack
It don't make no difference, escape one last time
It's easier to believe
In this sweet madness, oh this glorious sadness
That brings me to my knees
In the arms of the Angel far away from here
From this dark, cold hotel room, and the endlessness that
you feel
You are pulled from the wreckage of your silent reverie
You're in the arms of the Angel; may you find some comfort here
In the arms of the Angel; may you find some comfort here
Nikolas slowly raised his
head and looked into the beautiful eyes
of the girl that was comforting him. They stared at each other, caught
in
the moment. The kiss took them both by surprise. Nikolas had never
felt
something so right in his life. He knew at that moment that no matter
what
happened between them, this girl would somehow always be a part of
his
soul. It was like he had found the person that he had been looking
for all
his life.
Kelsey was shocked. She had
never thought that a simple kiss could
give rise to such complex emotions. The minute Nikolas' lips had touched
hers, she was caught, and she somehow knew that there was nothing in
the
world that could ever completely sever the bond that connected them.
A bond
that had only just formed, but was no less strong for it's newness.
She had
never felt something so strong in her life. There was something about
Nikolas that just...fit.
It was over all to soon,
and neither one of them knew what to do
upon its end. Kelsey was the first to move. She got quickly to her
feet,
her thoughts during the kiss forgotten, and replaced by guilt. She
liked
Emily and she didn't feel comfortable in the situation she now found
herself in. The last thing that she wanted to do was hurt someone the
way
that she had so recently been hurt.
"I'm sorry, Nikolas," she said. "I don't know what came over me."
"Kelsey it wasn't your fault. I wanted to kiss you," Nikolas said.
"It was a mistake," Kelsey
said, shaking her head. "It won't happen
again. There can't be anything between us. Not here, not now."
"There *is* something between
us, Kelsey," Nikolas said. "Something
that I can't make myself ignore. Can you?"
Kelsey sat back down on the
widow-seat and looked him straight in
the eye. "We have to ignore it, Nikolas. Think of all the people it
would
hurt! I know that you're with Emily, and I like her. I don't want to
hurt
her, or Sly. Regardless of what's happened between us, he's still important
to me and starting something with his cousin, well, he might come to
hate
you without ever getting to know you. I don't want to cause problems
in
your family Nikolas."
"Those are all good reasons
Kelsey," Nikolas said. He took her
hand. "But do you feel that?" Electricity flowed between them and Kelsey
found that she was unable to keep from leaning towards him. "I don't
know
if I can ignore that, Kelsey. I don't think I can ignore how right
it felt
to hold you in my arms and to kiss you. I don't want to hurt Emily,
Kelsey.
That's the last thing in the world that I would want to do. She means
so
much to me, and I do love her, but not the way that she wants and deserves
to be loved. She'll never get all she deserves from me, because there
will
always be something, some part of me that's missing. Won't it hurt
her more
in the long run for me to pretend like there's nothing here? Whether
or not
we end up together, I have to break up with Emily. What we have is
a
friendship that means the world to me, but we're not in love."
"You're not in love," Kelsey
said. "But she is. I've seen how she
looks at you, but you're right, she deserves more. She might not know
it
now, but she does."
"Why does it sound like you're
mad at me?" Nikolas asked. "It's not
like I want to feel this way! It's not like I want to hurt her! There's
nothing I can do about the way I feel. The feelings are just there!"
Kelsey sighed and rubbed
her temples, "I know Nikolas. I just hate
to be a part of something that will hurt someone like this. I've been
on
the other end of something like this before and it hurts. I've also
been in
your position, though not with someone I cared about as much as you
care
for Emily. My situation with Sly was something all together different,
but
in some ways similar. It seems like someone always gets hurt, doesn't
it?"
Nikolas nodded. "But that
doesn't change the fact that there is
something between us Kelsey. The question is, what are we going to
do about
it?"
"I'm not ready for another
relationship right now, Nikolas. I just
ended one that left both of us hurt in the end. I can't go through
that
again right now. You just met me. You can't be sure yet that all you
feel
for Emily is friendship."
"Yes I can, because I know, I feel it."
"Okay, then *I* can't be
sure that all you feel for Emily is
friendship. We need to give it some time Nikolas. We need to be sure
that
it's what we really want. I don't want to go through another experience
like the one I just had." Kelsey got to her feet. "I'm going to go
to bed.
Are you coming?"
"No," Nikolas said, looking
thoughtful. "I think that I'll stay up
here for a while. I have some thinking to do."
"Could you turn off the radio and the light when you come?"
"Sure," Nikolas said. Kelsey
turned to leave. "Actually, could you
turn the radio off now? I'd kind of like it to be quiet."
Kelsey nodded and headed over to the radio just as a new song came on.
Just when I believed I couldn't ever want for more.
This ever changing world pushes me through another door.
I saw you smile
And my mind could not erase the beauty of your face
Just for a while,
Won't you let me shelter you.
Kelsey's hand stopped over
the off switch as the words of the song
reached her. She looked over at Nikolas and their eyes met.
Hold on to the night
Hold on to the memory
I wish that I could give you something more,
That I could be yours
They stared at each other
silently, listening to the song that said
so much about what they were feeling.
How do we explain
something that took us by surprise
Promises in vain
Love that is real, but in disguise
What happens now
Do we break another rule, let our lovers play the fool?
I don't know how to stop feeling this way
"On second thought," Nikolas said, softly. "Leave it on."
Kelsey nodded. She had never
felt so confused in her life. She felt
torn between doing what she thought was right, and acting on what she
felt
to the very core of her being.
Hold on to the night
Hold on the memory
If only I could give you more...
Well, I think that I've been true to everybody else but me
And the way I feel about you makes my heart long to be free
Every time I look into your eyes I'm helplessly aware
That the someone I've been searching for is right there
Hold on to the night
Hold on to the memory
I wish that I could give you more....
Hold on to the night
Kelsey turned and walked
slowly down the stairs. She'd have plenty
of time to think in the morning. Right now she was so tired that thinking
was becoming impossible.
Nikolas watched her go, a
hole opening up in his heart. He had no
idea what to do. Maybe sleep was the answer. He felt a need to talk
to
somebody, but he didn't know who he should talk to. He sat there for
a long
time before eventually shutting off the radio and the light and going
to
bed. He'd think about everything in the morning.
To be continued...
