Meanwhile in Mulder¹s room..
Mulder was still asleep on the sofa when Scully knocked on the door.
Her tapping woke him up, and he still
had that sleep-worn appearance when he answered the door.
She took in his wrinkled clothes, and ruffled hair then said, "Hey, Sleepyhead."
"Come on in while I gather a few supplies," he instructed.
Scully came in and took a seat on the sofa. < Hmmm, I
remember the last time I sat on this sofa.> she
thought with a smile.
Meanwhile, Mulder gathered up two flashlights, a couple of pairs of
binoculars, and snacks that he¹d
ordered from the hotel earlier.
"So, are there any new developments?" Scully asked.
"Actually, yeah, I¹m thinking about adding our friend Carly Roberts
to the list of suspects." Mulder said.
"She¹s definitely hiding something, and she had good reason
to kill at least three of the victims."
"Which three?" Scully asked.
"I¹ll fill you in on the way. Let¹s go." Mulder said, as he ushered Scully out of the door.
They took Mulder¹s rental car and headed to the docks, where Helena¹s
yacht was located. On the way,
Mulder began explained why his suspicions had fallen on Carly.
When they had arrived at their destination,
he pulled off the road, a little ways away from Helena¹s yacht.
From where they parked there was a clear
view of the boat and the docks. They continued to talk as they
observed Helena¹s movements.
"Well, Dr. Jones and A.J. Quartermaine were definitely first on her
hit list, followed closely by attorney at
law, Alexis Davis. Not only did Ms. Robert¹s relationship
with the good doctor end badly, but he
threatened to sue for custody of her son. That in conjunction with
the kidnapping could have pushed her over
the edge. From what I gathered this afternoon, she¹s very
emotional and quite irrational when she gets
upset." He justified.
At this point Scully jumped in and said, "Of course since
A.J. was also a paternity contender, she would
have killed him for the same reason, to protect her child."
She then stopped as a thought occurred to her.
"Mulder, was there ever an official paternity test done in order to
identify the father of the child?" Scully
asked.
"Ah, not that I know of. It was a difficult birth, and immediately
following it her and the kid each had to
undergo surgery, during which time the baby¹s blood type was identified
as Jason Quartermaines¹." Mulder
informed her.
"Blood type isn¹t conclusive proof of paternity Mulder, especially
considering that two of the potential dads
are closely related. Until an official paternity test is done,
that child could just as easily belong to either
brother." She returned.
"You¹re kidding?" Mulder exclaimed.
"You know if that baby is A.J. Quartermaine¹ child and not his
brothers¹, she could have killed him to keep it
from coming out. And since Tony Jones was a doctor he would have
discovered Carly¹s deception, and
threatened to let the cat out of the bag." Scully suggested.
"That¹s a definite possibility." Mulder agreed, then
added. "I like the way your mind works."
"You mentioned Alexis Davis earlier." Scully asked. "How does she fit into all this."
"She was the attorney that defended Dr. Jones in the kidnapping trial.
She won the case, but of course by
the time the verdict was released Jones was already dead."
He stated.
"Yeah, I vaguely remember hearing about it on the news in Washington."
Scully said pensively, "Mulder
where does this leave your theory about the brunette? Carly¹s
blond, and a true one at that."
"I don¹t know. I¹m having a hard time figuring out how
the brunette comes into play." Mulder admitted,
then added. "But I do know one thing, Ms. Roberts is in
this up to her ears. When I mentioned Jasper Jax,
she flew off the handle, then tensely said that she only knew him by
name."
"Have you considered the possibility that Carly is the brunette, Mulder?
She could have been wearing a wig,
and the hair we found could be Mrs. Cassidines¹, which she planted.
They¹re both blond." Scully
speculated.
"Yes, but the problem is that Carly Roberts is not that short.
I¹d say she¹s about 5¹5", and the maid that I
spoke with at the hotel said that the brunette was short."
Mulder countered. "Ms. Roberts is more average
than short."
"How tall was the hotel maid that you interviewed, Mulder?" Scully asked.
"Easily six feet." He answered absently.
"Well, Mulder has it occurred to you that a woman who is six feet tall
would consider anyone under 5¹7" to
be short. Height is relative." Scully told him.
"That¹s a good point." Mulder said, "But something¹s still missing."
"You know there¹s also a possibility that the only thing that Carly
is hiding is the paternity of her child."
Scully suggested, "I think our first order of business
should be to find out who actually fathered Ms.
Roberts baby."
"That¹s not going to be easy to do. Won¹t you need blood
samples from both brothers, the mother, and the
child?" he said.
"Not necessarily, I could also use hair samples, and those would be easier to come by. " she informed him.
"Either way, she¹s not going to allow it without a court order,
and as of now I don¹t have enough evidence
against her to get one." Mulder said in frustration,
"Besides, at this point, I¹m not ready to accuse her of
anything. From what I saw today, Carly Roberts is very emotional
and reactionary, I doubt if she has the
forethought to do a lot of planning. Although she¹s probably
not losing sleep over Jones¹ and
Quartermaines¹ deaths, I see her as more of a heat of the moment."
"Wait! Look, she¹s leaving the boat." Mulder
said cutting off his last sentence. "How tall would you guess
she is, Scully?"
Scully looked at him as if he were crazy, "Mulder,
we¹re too far away to guess reasonably, even with
binoculars."
Helena appeared to be taking a walk along the docks, so they continued to talk as they watched her.
"It seems to me that Jasper Jax is the missing link," Scully
offered, "I mean he¹s the only victim for which
no motive can be established, not even a tentative one."
Mulder readily agreed. "There¹s something we¹re
over-looking here." He concluded, "I think it¹s
time we
talked to his fiance¹, Ms. Barrett."
"Uh, Mulder, she¹s dead. Well, presumed dead anyway, she
and her mother went over a cliff in her car, and
their bodies were never found." Scully enlightened him.
"She died even before Jax¹s murder."
"But Scarlet told me." Mulder trailed off.
Scully smiled at him mischievously and said, "I would have
thought it was apparent by now that anything my
sister told you should be taken with a grain of salt."
Mulder broke into a sheepish grin, and looked at her for a long time.
He liked seeing her smile, seeing a
more relaxed, carefree side of her.
"You know, Lizzie B. still thinks that there are two of you." Mulder said devilishly.
"I know." Scully said, then added curiously, "Why didn¹t you tell her the truth?"
"At first, I didn¹t tell her because I figured you might not want
her to know, but later when I discovered just
how much Scarlet annoys LizzieB, I just kept mum. I think it¹s
the breathless voice mostly." He said, then
added with a grin, "You know the very mention of Scarlet¹s
name is enough to elicit eye-rolling from Lizzie
B. Then she makes this sound that¹s sort of half-way between
a sigh and a groan."
They both laughed at his description of LizzieB¹s attitude towards Scarlet.
"Mulder, this is an absurd conversation." Scully informed him, still faintly smiling.
"That¹s what makes it fun." He sighed happily.
Mulder and Scully were so engrossed in both their conversation and watching
Helena that they didn¹t hear V
approaching the car. She came up from behind the car and tapped
on Mulder¹s window.
"Geez!," Mulder exclaimed.
V made a motion for him to roll down the window. She then leaned
in with her flashlight and said, "Aren¹t
you two a little old to be parking?"
V was about to tell them to move along when she noticed the surveillance
paraphernalia. "Okay, Who are
you and what¹s are you doing out here at this hour?"
she demanded to know.
Both Mulder and Scully pulled out their credentials, while Mulder explained,
"I¹m detective Mulder, and
this is special agent Dana Scully with the FBI. We¹re here
on official FBI business, and that¹s all I¹m at
liberty to say at this time."
"Why wasn¹t Commissioner Scorpio notified of this?" V asked suspiciously.
"This is a very delicate investigation, so all information is on a need-to-know
basis. Since, this particular
aspect of the investigation didn¹t directly concern the PCPD,
they were not notified." Scully said in a no
nonsense voice.
That seemed to satisfy V; she turned and left them to their work.
Mulder and Scully returned to their surveillance to find that Helena
was no longer alone. During the course
of V¹s inquiry, a second party had joined her on the docks.
"Whoa, it looks like Mrs. Cassidine has company." Mulder
observed, "Damn, I can¹t see her face. I
wished we¹d seen her arrive."
Just then the second woman turned towards them. "That¹s Carly Roberts, Mulder." Scully informed him.
"Yeah, and it appears that this was a planned meeting."
Mulder concluded, as he watched Carly and
Helena engage in conversation.
At some point, their discussion became a heated debate.
Scully commented, "I wish we could hear what they¹re
saying. It looks like it¹s about to get ugly over
there."
"I¹ve never seen Carly Roberts participate in a conversation that didn¹t get ugly." Mulder noted.
"Do you supposed this means that Carly is in cahoots with Mrs. Cassidine?" Scully asked.
"It appears that way." Mulder observed, then added as he
looked at his watch, "It¹s almost time for
Lucky and LizzieB¹s shift to start. You keep watching while
I called them and tell them where we are."
With that Mulder flipped open his cell phone, and began dialing.
Okay, all you Carly lovers, chill out. Carly may seem a little
shrewish right now, but trust me she will mellow
in coming chapters esp. when she finds out that Jason has feelings
for her.
I hope you enjoyed the latest two installments my fanfic.
Chapter 15
At the PC Hotel..
Lizzie B. woke slowly. She was only half-awake when she felt the
cocoon of warmth, which surrounded
her, begin to abate and pulling away. She groaned softly in her
sleep and proceeded to snuggle closer to the
source of her bliss.
Lucky was awake and had been watching Elizabeth for a while. It
was almost time for them to get up and
get ready to start their watch shift. He¹d begun to move
out of the circle of her arms, when she groaned and
moved closer. He looked down at her and smiled when he saw her
brow furrow in annoyance.
"Elizabeth, we have to get up now. It¹s 7 o¹clock and
we have to be somewhere at 8:30." Lukcy directed
at her still sleeping form.
At this, Elizabeth finally came awake. She opened one eye and looked up at Lucky.
"That¹s it. Now, all we have to do is get the other eye open
and we¹re home free." Lucky said with a
smile.
"Since when did you become a morning person.?" Elizabeth
inquired as she opened her other eye and
began yawning.
"Since I started waking up next to you every morning." He
replied, as he leaned down and kissed the top of
her head.
She smiled and informed him, "Flattery will get you everywhere."
She began to get up when she realized that she and Lucky were still
on the sofa. Then she remembered,
she¹d fallen asleep right in the middle of Tomorrow Never Dies¹.
"So, what happened at the end of the movie?" she asked.
"Elizabeth, it¹s a James Bond¹ movie. Can¹t you guess?" Lucky said.
Just then Lizzie B¹s cell phone rang, and she crossed the room to answer it.
"Yeah, BossYeah, we¹re up.okay.ah huh..We¹ll be there.. bye Boss." She said.
As soon as she hung up the phone Lucky asked, "What was that about?"
"The Boss was just letting us know where to go to relieve him and Scully.
We¹ll have to take a cab over
there, because he wants us to be as inconspicuous as possible, and
also because they took the rental car."
LizzieB explained.
Shaking off the last remnants of sleep, Elizabeth and Lucky got up and
began to ready themselves for work.
Meanwhile at the Docks
Mulder put his cell away and turned his attention back to the docks.
Carly was now speaking so loudly that
both He and Scully could hear faint traces of her voice in the wind.
"She has one powerful set of lungs. I can hear her even from this distance." Mulder said.
"Yeah, but it¹s still impossible to make out what she¹s saying."
Scully said in disappointment, then asked
about the relief team, "So did you fill LizzieB. and Lucky
in on what¹s going on?"
"Yeah, they should be here in an hour or so." Mulder said absently.
"Mulder?" Scully said his name tentatively, "What¹s on your mind?"
"Something just occurred to me, Scully. Isn¹t Carly Roberts
Bobbie Spenser¹s daughter and therefore
Lucky¹s cousin?" he asked.
"Yeah, why?" Scully returned, confused about the importance of his question.
"Well, that would make Carly a Spencer by blood, right? So if
the Spencers and the Cassidines are
supposed to be enemies why would Helena take up with Carly Roberts
of all people. And another thing, do
you think Carly is actually capable trying to kill her own cousin?"
he wondered aloud.
"Just so you know Mulder, Bobbie only became aware of Carly¹s existence
less than a year ago. And from
what I¹ve seen, their relationship is rocky, as is her relationship
with the rest of her new found family. Let us
recall that Bobbie¹s husband was once thought to be the father
of Carly¹s baby. Besides, I don¹t see that
her attachment to the Spencers is great enough to risk the lost of
her son." She informed him, "You did
say she was fiercely protective of him."
"Yeah, that¹s true." Mulder admitted.
Their concentration shifted back to the twosome on the docks.
Carly appeared to have finished venting her
spleen, because suddenly she made a hasty, dramatic exit.
"Hmmm. Looks like she¹s leaving." Mulder observed.
"Mulder, I¹ve been thinking, you and LizzieB might want to talk
to Robin Scorpio. Her and Brenda were
best friends, and I¹m sure she knew Jasper Jax pretty well too.
She might be able to shed some light on a
motive for his murder."
"Good idea. We¹ll go talk to her today." He said.
Just then Lizzie B. and Lucky arrived on the scene. They were
careful to come around to the back of the
car so that they were not visible from the Docks.
"Hey Boss, did you two have a nice night? LizzieB asked mischievously.
"I never had it so good." He replied roguishly, then added
seriously, "Listen, I was planning on having a
chat with Robin Scorpio later on today, and I¹ll probably need
your help.
"Sure thing, Boss. Ill call you when Lucky and I get off." Lizzie B. said.
"You guys should probably hurry if you want to catch that cab.
We told him to wait." Lucky informed
them.
At that, Mulder and Scully exited the car and headed toward the waiting
cab. Lucky and Lizzie B took their
post in the car.
"Look, they left us some snacks." Lizzie B observed.
"Great! I¹m starving" Lucky said as he reached over and helped himself to one of the sandwiches.
Lizzie B picked up a pair of binoculars and began watching Helena¹s
yacht. She was wrestling with whether
or not to tell Lucky about Helena and Carly¹s little chat.
<Man, I should have told him as soon as I got off
the phone. Now, it¹s going to seem like I was hiding
it from him.> she thought nervously.
<Geez, you should just tell him before any more time passes.
You know how much he hates secrets.>
Lizzie B ordered herself.
She began nervously, "Uh, Lucky, I know that I probably
should¹ve told you this when I first found out, but
I wasn¹t sure how you¹d react. I know you hate secrets
and all, but what I have to say to you sort of cast
one of your relatives in a bad light."
Lucky didn¹t like the sound of that, "Just tell me. I can handle it." He assured her.
"Well, when the Boss called this morning he wasn¹t just giving
me directions. He also gave me an update on
what went on last night." She began slowly.
"Elizabeth?" Lucky said impatiently.
"Okay, okay, while they were on watch last night, the Boss and Scully
observed Helena and Carly having a
heated discussion on the docks. From what they saw, it looked
as if it was a planned meeting, Lucky."
"What did they talk about?" Lucky asked.
"I don¹t know. The Boss said that they were too far away
to understand what was said but the conversation
got pretty ugly." She informed him, "That doesn¹t
mean that she was the one who tried to kill you though,
remember you said that your attacker was short, and Ms. Roberts didn¹t
look that short to me."
"It¹s okay Elizabeth, you don¹t have to try and justify her
actions." He told her, "but thank you for telling
me. It means a lot to me to know that I can trust you to always
tell me the truth. You know that¹s the main
problem I have with my parents right now, I can¹t trust them.
I never know when they¹re omitting facts or
outright lying, all in the name of protecting me."
"Did you decide what you¹re going to do about them yet?" Lizzie B asked tentatively.
"No, I haven¹t. I do know that things can¹t go on like
this forever. Eventually, I¹m going to have to either
forgive them or disown them forever like Jason did with his family.
If I knew for sure that they had changed
and they would never lie to me again, then I might be willing to start
over, but I don¹t know that. You know
this isn¹t the first time that they¹ve hid things for me.
I didn¹t even know Nik existed until a few years ago
when he just show up in Port Charles and announced that he was Lulu¹s
brother." Lucky confided.
"Is that why you guys have such a strained relationship?" Lizzie B asked.
"Yeah. You haven¹t seen the worse of it, before we hooked
up to help Em find her rapist, Nik and I
couldn¹t even be in the same room without exchanging words and
sometimes punches." Lucky told her
emotionally, "I don¹t know, now it¹s hard to
keep hating him after what he¹s done for Em. I was the one
who found her in the park that night afterward.."
he trailed off, "It was the most horrible thing I¹ve
ever
seen. I mean, it took me months to get that image of Em crawling
out of those bushes with that expression
on her face, out of my head. Then, after that, the nightmares
started. It was bad, and I tried to help her as
best I could, but I must admit it was Nik who put the light back in
her eyes. I never thought I¹d see it again,
and for that I¹ll always be grateful."
LizzieB didn¹t know what to say. She could tell he was upset
at the memories of what happened, and she
wondered why he felt her pain so completely.
"Lucky, maybe this is none of my business, but you sound like you¹ve
had some personal experience with
rape, other than Emilys¹ I mean." She carefully inquired.
"Yeah, I guess you could say that. It has to do with my parents."
he admitted then suddenly he changed the
subject, "That reminds me, do you remember the day
we first met at the hospital? And how at first I
thought that you and Mulder were hired by my dad to spy on me?"
"Yeah, what about it?" she asked, taking the hint that he
wasn¹t ready to tell her exactly what had happened
between him and his parents.
"What was with that look you two shared when Mulder made reference to
my parents being as surprised as
me at the investigation?" he inquired.
Lizzie B. unexpected turned pink.
"That¹s the same look you had that day. What happened while
you were at my parent¹s house?" He asked
becoming increasingly curious.
"Are you sure you really want to know, Lucky?" Elizabeth replied.
"I wouldn¹t have asked if I didn¹t." he answered.
"Okay, we sort of dropped by your parent¹s house unannounced looking
for you. You father opened the
door with a caveman¹s club in his hand, wearing a pair of pink
and red boxers. Before I could defuse the
situation, the Boss inadvertently questioned you dad¹s sanity."
At this Lucky began to laugh.
"Do you want to hear this story or not?" she asked him.
"I¹m sorry, go on." Lucky said as he held back laughter.
"Okay, we heard your mom, but at the time we didn¹t know
it was your mom. I sort of got mad and told
your dad that he should be down at the hospital taking care of his
son and not living it up with some cheap
floozy, i.e. you mother." She admitted.
Lucky smiled and asked, "You mean you hadn¹t even met me yet, and you were still worried about me?"
"Yeah," she said shyly.
Just then Helena emerged from her yacht. This caught Lucky and Elizabeth¹s eye.
"Looks like the old bat is on the move." Lucky said.
"Yeah, we should follow her" Lizzie B said reluctantly, not wanting their conversation to end.
They trailed Helena in the car, being careful to keep a safe distance.
Her destination appeared to be the
university.
"Why on earth would Helena want to go to PCU?" Lucky wondered aloud.
"Maybe it¹s toga night at the frat house? You did say she
was Greek, right?" Lizzie B suggested
humorously.
Chapter 16
At the Penthouse
Jason was on his way back up to the penthouse, after an early business
meeting. When he arrived at the
top, he was surprised to discover that Reynaldo was not guarding the
door.
"What the hell." He trailed off as he heard a loud crash
coming from Carly¹s place.
Jason immediately ran to the door, and began pounding, "CARLY!
Are you okay?" he frantically yelled
through the door.
The door unexpectedly flew open to reveal a very harried looking Reynaldo.
"Thank God, you¹re here. Ms. Roberts was very upset when
she arrived. She was crying hysterically, and
then she started throwing stuff. I tried to calm her down, but
she just kept screaming for you." Reynaldo
quickly explained as he led Jason to where Carly was.
"Where¹s Michael?" Jason asked.
"Across the hall, with Lateasia." He replied.
"Good, why don¹t you join him. I can handle it from here."
Jason said as he spotted Carly huddled down
behind the bed, crying.
Jason approached her slowly, "Carly." he began cautiously.
When she heard his voice she immediately looked up, "Jason?" she whispered hoarsely.
"Yeah, it¹s me. Carly, what¹s wrong?" he inquired softly as he sat down on the floor next to her.
She launched herself into his arms and held on for dear life.
Jason said smoothing things to her in an effort to
calm her down enough to get some information out of her.
"Carly, you have to tell me what happened?" he tried again
She pulled back and looked into his eyes. "I can¹t
Jase, you¹ll hate me if I do." She said and started to
become agitated again.
"Carly, calm down. I won¹t hate you, I promise. And
you know I don¹t break my promises." He informed
her placidly.
That seemed to placate her at the moment. She looked down at the
floor and said, "I lied to the
investigators who came by the other day." She told him
reluctantly.
<That¹s a given.> he thought, then asked her, "About what Carly?"
"About never having meet Jasper Jax." She admitted.
"So, you knew him, so what." Jason said flippantly.
"Jason, I met him the day he died." She said slowly.
<Ah, Hell! She killed him.> He thought. Bracing
himself for her answered, he asked, "Did you kill him,
Carly?"
"No, but I might as well have, that bitch Helena Cassidine is trying to pin it on me." She told him.
"Whoa, how did you get mixed up with Cassidine?" he inquired perplexed.
"The night Jax was murdered, I couldn¹t sleep, so I decided to
take a walk along the docks. While I was
down there I found the body. He was already dead, Jason.
I didn¹t kill him, Jason I promise. I didn¹t!"
She said as she profusely shook her head.
"I believe you. Carly, look at me, I believe you, okay.
Just tell me how Helena Cassidine is involved." He
prompted her.
"While I was trying to decide what to do, she and one of her henchmen
came out of the shadows and she
said that if I told anyone I saw her there she¹d pin it on me.
At first, I just laughed and told her to go to hell,
but then she mentioned hurting Michael and I got scared. Killing
him would be right up her alley, Jason, I
mean Michael is a Spencer after all. So, I agreed that I wouldn¹t
report anything, not even finding the body."
She confided.
"So, what happened then?" he prompted.
"Nothing, I left and came home." She told him. "I thought that was the end of it."
"So what exactly sparked your hysterics earlier?" he asked carefully.
"Helena contacted me the other day, and told me to meet her at the docks
early this morning around 6:30.
Apparently, after that night on the docks, she¹s been having me
watched, because when I got there she said
she knew that the investigators were up here asking us questions, and
she also knew about Michael¹s
paternity. She said that it didn¹t matter anyway because
she¹d already taken the precaution of implicating me
in Alexis Davis¹ murder." Carly lamented.
"Carly, why didn¹t you come to me in the first place?" he asked.
"I was scared Jase. She has a lot of power, and I just thought
that it would be easier to keep quiet like she
said. But then, after this morning, I didn¹t know what to
do." She finished sadly.
"Did she say exactly what she¹d done to implicate you?" he asked.
"No, she just said that no matter who my alibi was, it wouldn¹t hold up." Carly told him.
"Hmmm. That probably means that she planted something of yours
at the scene." he supposed, then
added, "Have you noticed anything missing, lately?
Jewelry? Keys? Small items of clothing?"
"No." she said after thinking a minute.
"Look, don¹t worry about it okay? Michael needs you healthy. I¹ll take care of everything." He said.
With that he picked her up and put her on the bed, under the covers.
"Why don¹t you take it easy for the rest of the afternoon, okay?
In the meanwhile, I¹ll do some checking
and see what I can find out." He said as he stroked the
hair on her forehead.
"Promise?" she said plaintively.
"Yeah, I promise." He said with a smile. Then he walked over to the door, turned out the light and left.
Once in the adjacent penthouse, he called one of his men.
"Joseph, I need you find out something for me." Jason ordered,
"Do you remember the two investigators
who were here yesterday? Good, I need you to tail them, and find out
everything they know about the PC
murders, including all the forensics evidence of each crime scene,
finger prints, items found at the scene,
everything..What do you mean you¹re already tailing one of them.That¹s
great, where are they
now?.No, don¹t do anything yet. Wait until they¹re
done, then give me a call. If they¹re on a stake out,
someone is bound to relieve them sooner or later."
<Great. If Lucky¹s involved, I¹ll be able to come
by the information I need a lot quicker and easier.> Jason
concluded silently.
Meanwhile
"Damn! Which way did she go?" Lucky exclaimed.
"Isn¹t that her over there?" LizzieB. said as she pointed.
"Yeah, let¹s go. Looks like she¹s headed back to the yacht." He said.
"I wish we could have followed her when she got out of the car." Lizzie B. lamented.
"Yeah, me too, but Mulder told us not to get out of the car, for any reason." Lucky reminded her.
"I know, I know, but I don¹t think it would have hurt just that
once. We could¹ve found out exactly what
she was up to at the campus." LizzieB argued her point.
"Or we could¹ve blown our cover." He said, choosing to be realistic and not optimistic.
"Kill Joy!" She said sourly.
"Better Joy, than Elizabeth." He quipped.
"Don¹t be such a doomsayer, Lucky." She returned lightly.
"Elizabeth, I grew up on the run from the mob. My parents taught
me to expect the worse, I guess it¹s a
hard habit to break." He replied.
<I love it when he uses my given name.> she thought.
"In that case, you¹re lucky you know me because I¹m a super
optimist. Spend a couple of more days with
me and I¹ll have you thinking positive in no time."
She said playfully.
"Just in the nick of time," he said feigning relief.
"Speaking of which, what time is it?" Lizzie B asked.
"It¹s about 4:15, I should probably call Nik and Emily and tell
them where to meet us." Lucky said, "If I
call them now, that will give them plenty of time to meet us back at
the docks."
Lucky called Nik and Emily and informed them of his and Lizzie B¹s
whereabouts, then they made their way
back. When they arrived, Em and Nik were already waiting for
them.
"Late as usual, I see." Nik cracked.
Emily snickered under her breath.
"Excuse me, but we¹ve been chasing YOUR wench of a grandmother
over hill and dale all day. How were
we supposed to know the old crone would turn out to be the Artful
Dowager¹." Lucky returned acidly.
Both Em and Lizzie B. broke into laughter at Lucky¹s comment.
Not to be outdone by his brother¹s wisecrack Nik continued the
banter. "Too quick for you, was she?" he
quipped.
"Boys, Boys let¹s play nice" Emily chastened playfully.
"In all fairness, Nikolas, your grandmother is quite spry for her age."
Elizabeth said still smiling at Nik and
Lucky¹s antics.
Just then Joseph called Jason to inform him of the new players on the
scene.
At the penthouse..
"Hello,.. Emily¹s involved, too?No, give me the number and I¹ll
call..thanks Joseph." Jason finished,
as he hung up the phone.
He immediately dialed Lucky¹s cell phone number.
Back at the docks.
At the sound of Lucky¹s cell, Lizzie B was perplexed, "Who could that be? We¹re all standing right here."
"There¹s only one way to find out." Lucky said as he answered his phone.
"Hello..how did you get this number?yeahI¹ll be right thereokay.bye." He finished.
"Who was that and where are you going?" Lizzie B. asked impatiently.
"Ah, that was Jason. It seems he¹s had someone tailing me,
at my dad¹s request of course. Anyway he
wants to see me and he also wants to see you Elizabeth."
Lucky said, directing the latter part at Lizzie B.
"What does he want to see you two about?" Nik inquired.
"The investigation, I¹m guessing. He mentioned something
sharing information." Lucky answered, then
looked down at Elizabeth, "You game?"
"Yeah, just let me call the Boss and tell him what¹s up.
He¹ll probably want to meet us over there." LizzieB
said as she pulled out her cell.
Elizabeth called Mulder and had him meet her and Lucky over at Jasons¹.
Em and Nik took there post
watching the yacht, where Helena was once again enjoying Ari¹s
company.
