Sonny dropped her hand, his smiling falling
with it. ''Excuse me?''
''I want to go see Jax.''
''Why?''
''Sonny!'' Brenda exasperated, laughing slightly.
''Why are you being so difficult!?''
''Why are you being so ridiculous!?''
''I was going to marry Jax!'' Brenda exclaimed,
throwing her hands up in frustration. ''I was going to have his
children! I had my entire life with Jax planned
out, Sonny, I *have* to do this!''
''He's moved on, and so have you!''
''He thinks that I am DEAD!'' Brenda raised
her voice slightly. ''And I love him too much to let him believe
otherwise.''
''You *what*?'' Sonny rushed to his feet.
Brenda groaned. ''Oh, God, don't you DARE
start that again, Sonny!''
''Start what!?''
''I LOVED JAX!'' Brenda yelled, rushing to
her feet beside him. ''Alright? I loved him, Sonny. He was IT for me,
after you and I, it seemed hopeless, you know?
So Jax was IT for me, and then my accident happened, and the
whole thing with my mother. . .'' Her voice
trailed off, before picking up again. ''We found each other again and I
fell so hopelessly in love with you again,
and you helped my mother, Sonny, you helped her! Do you have any idea
what it feels like to know that someone loves
me that much!? Veronica is at Mercy Hospital right now, all by
herself! And I'm eight and a half months pregnant
and-'' She bit and licked her lips as she felt the tears rising. ''I
almost lost my life, Sonny, I want to make
peace with the people who thought I did, okay? Please, try and
understand.''
He shook his head, still angry, yet somewhat
mollified. She looked so beautiful when she cried, it always softened
her heart.
''I-'' He shook his head, turning around.
''Do what you have to do.''
''Dammit, Sonny, why do you always have to
be like this!?''
He didn't answer her. ''TALK TO ME!'' She
cried. When he still didn't answer, she angrilly yanked her coat from
the chairback and grabbed her purse, stalking
out of the penthouse.
**************************
''Lucky, come ON!!'' Elizabeth whined as he
steered her around yet ANOTHER tree.
''Shh, we're almost there.'' He whispered
against her ear. ''And KEEP YOUR EYES CLOSED!'' Liz felt like
stamping her foot against the dirt forest
floor impatiently. He had driven her outside of Port Charles and into the
moutains surrounding the city on it's north,
west and south sides. It was the first week of November and brutally
cold out. Even though Elizabeth was wearing
a beautiful wool sweater and wool jacket she had bought with her
own tip money at Abercrombie & Fitch,
she was still shivering from the extreme cold. Lucky's hands steering her
on her forearms didn't seem to be helping
her any bit either. Finally, he stopped and plopped her down on a rock.
The coolness of it shocked her and she let
out a tiny gasp. Lucky sat down beside her, and wrapped his arms
around her body from behind, resting his head
next to hers on her shoulder.
''Open your eyes.''
Elizabeth popped them open and focused. A
gasp was drawn from her lungs. ''Oh my G-''
She looked out at the beautiful Port Charles
skyline. She could see just about the entire city, from downtown, all
the way to the very tip. The lights of the
city shown elegantly and warmly in the setting sun, directly across from
them on the West mountain peaks. She could
see a green blanket of evergreen trees lying below the steep ledge
before them, and covering the treetops, a
sheet of frost. She could see the Port Charles river, and harbor, and
how beautiful they looked from above, and
she could feel in her heart how deeply she loved this place, and how
deeply she loved Lucky for bringing her here.
''It's beautiful,'' She expressed, still in
awe. ''How did you find this place?''
Lucky looked out at the view for a moment,
before looking back at her. ''I found it after Emily and I had this huge
fight . . . We were at her house and I got
so furious with her that I got in my car and drove all the way out of town
and started walking. . .I made it right here.
And I sat down and I thought about you.''
''Really?'' Elizabeth asked, her eyes filling
with love.
Lucky nodded. ''I love you so much. I don't
know why it took me so long to realize it, but you're. . .you mean so
much to me, Elizabeth. Just holding you in
my arms right now . . . feels so damn good. It feels perfect, right, you
know?''
She nodded, and brushed hair out of her eyes
after the wind blew it there. ''This is the perfect first date, thank
you.'' She linked her shivering arms through
his and leaned back against him. Lucky kissed her temple.
Elizabeth sighed happily as she and Lucky
sat there, just listening to each other's breathing and relishing in the
feeling of their love for one another.
Elizabeth turned suddenly in his arms and
whispered, ''I love you.''
''Me too, baby,'' He leaned in to kiss her
lips.
Elizabeth smiled as they pulled back. ''You
know what I think we should do?''
''What?'' Lucky asked her softly, his eyes
twinkling.
''We should bring the baby here.''
''You think so?'' Lucky replied.
Liz nodded her head passionately. Then she
stopped. ''Wait. No. Let's not. I want this place to be our place. Just
yours and mine. Forever.''
''Forever.''
He sealed it with a kiss.
