Lucky:(annoyed) What?!
Sarah: What? I have been standing here for two minutes trying to get your attention. What are you looking at anyway?
Lucky: Nothing.
Sarah: Yeah, well that nothing was pretty interesting.
Lucky rolled his eyes and wondered what exactly he had seen in Sarah.
Lucky: Look, Sarah, I wasn't the one who took off to go talk to her ex- boyfriend.
Sarah: Well, I just wanted to talk to Nikolas.
Lucky:(smiling) See, Sarah, that's the problem. All you ever do is drone on about Nikolas. Sorry, but that's not my idea of fun.
Sarah:(frowning) I..uh..I
Lucky: This isn't working out. Neither of us is having any fun.
Sarah: I'm having fun.
Lucky: I mean with me, Sarah---Not Nikolas.
Sarah: But Lucky---
Lucky:(interrupting her) Forget it. Look, I think I'm just going to go home.
Sarah: But the dance isn't it over yet.
Lucky: It is for me......I don't want to ditch you, so I'll walk you home if you want.
Sarah:(dejectedly) No, I'll get a ride with Deenie.
Lucky: Fine. Bye.
Lucky walked away from Sarah. He was thinking about how things had changed so fast. *A little while ago, I would have given anything to be here with Sarah and now I'm walking away from her....I just can't get Elizabeth out of my head. But I also can't stand here and watch her dance with other guys....I just can't.*
Lucky walked by Liz and Nikolas who were dancing again. Liz watched as Lucky walked by her and to the exit of the gym. *Oh no, is he leaving?* Liz let go of Nikolas.
Liz:(hurriedly) Sorry, Nikolas, but I have to go see where Lucky is going...I might not come back.
Before Nikolas could say anything, Liz was gone. Lucky had left the gym and was standing outside, breathing in the cool night's air. Liz ran outside and came up behind him.
Liz: Lucky? What are you doing out here?
Lucky was startled for a moment and then quickly turned around. He smiled at her.
Lucky: What are you doing out here? It's freezing.
Liz:(smiling) I think I just asked you that same question.
Lucky: Elizabeth, all you have on is that dress. Here take my jacket.
Lucky quickly took off his jacket and went behind Liz. His fingertips brushed over Liz's bare shoulders and she shivered. They weren't cold though--it was his touch--it had that effect on her. He slipped the coat over her shoulders and then went back to standing in front of her.
Liz:(smiling) Thanks, Lucky.
Lucky:(grinning) Well, I don't want to be held responsible for you catching a cold.
Liz:Which brings us back to my question? Why are you out here?
Lucky:(looking down) Oh. I'm taking off early.
Liz frowned and wondered if it was something she had done.
Liz: Oh, why are you leaving early?
Lucky looked at her. He decided to tell her about his lost feelings for Sarah...but not his new ones for her.
Lucky: Well, I just wasn't having a good time with Sarah.
Liz was shocked by his words. She knew they had almost kissed, but Lucky not having a good time with Sarah? She thought this was what he had wanted.
Liz: But...but I thought that you wanted to go with Sarah. Isn't this what you've been waiting for?
Lucky:It was. But...I don't know. I mean I just don't have feelings for her anymore....It's weird, maybe it's been coming for a while..I don't know. All she ever talks about is Nikolas....She doesn't want to be with me.....I guess I just realized it.
Liz almost collapsed from happiness. *He doesn't like Sarah anymore! This is so great!....Now I have a chance!* She took in a breath and chose her words carefully.
Liz: Oh, I'm sorry..(smiling now)..Of course, you just realized what I've been trying to tell you for months.
Lucky:(smiling) Yeah, I know.....I guess I should listen to you more often.
Liz:(grinning) That's right,you should.
Lucky:(frowning a little) So why aren't you in there with Nikolas?
Liz decided not to tell Lucky about her little plan...she couldn't without revealing her feelings for him. She chose to tell him she just wasn't having fun.
Liz: Oh, well I wanted to see what you were doing.....and I'm not having the best time with Nikolas either.
Lucky: I thought you were.
Liz:(shaking her head) Not really...I just kind of said that.
Neither Liz and Lucky wanted to mention their near kiss. They just weren't ready to discuss it yet, so they avoided it.
Lucky:(smiling) You know, I think that I would have had fun if I came with you in instead.
Liz contained the joy that was bursting inside of her. *He wishes he went with me!! This is so great! I want to ask him about us almost kissing..but I can't.....it's too soon. But now I know that he must have some feelings for me...He has to!*
Liz:(smiling) Oh you do, huh? Yeah, well I think I would have had more fun with you too.
Lucky:(smiling) Well that's good! We just decided that our original plans were the right ones!
They both laughed and then were silent.
Lucky: Well, I better get going.
Liz:(hesitantly) Lucky...will you walk me home?
Lucky smiled at her request and almost said "yes" a little too quickly.
Lucky: You want to leave? What about Nikolas?
Liz: He doesn't care....I told him I might leave.....I mean he is nice, but just not my type.
Lucky almost shouted with joy. *Nikolas isn't her type! She doesn't like him!....I wonder what her type is?*
Liz smiled at Lucky and thought to herself. *Nikolas sure isn't my type...but you are, Lucky.*
Lucky:(grinning) So I guess riding home in a Jag isn't your type either?
Liz:(laughing) No, that was definitely nice!.....(smiling and softly) But I'd rather walk home with you.
Lucky nodded and smiled at her. They began their walk home. They enjoyed their time together, talking and laughing. After a little while, they reached the Hardy house.
Liz:Thanks for walking me home Lucky.
Lucky:(smiling) No problem.....It was fun.
Liz: Yeah, it was...(reluctantly)...Well, I guess I'll go in now.
Lucky: Yeah.
Liz: Goodnight.
Lucky:(smiling) Goodnight, Elizabeth.
Liz smiled at him and turned to go inside. Lucky watched her for a moment and then began to walk down the sidewalk...when he heard her voice.
Liz:(loudly) Lucky, wait!
Lucky quickly turned around and saw Elizabeth running towards him. She stopped abruptly in front of him, almost bumping into him.
Lucky: Elizabeth, what is it?
Liz quickly removed the coat from her shoulders.
Liz:(smiling) This. You almost forgot your jacket.
Lucky:(taking the jacket) Oh yeah. Thanks.
Liz:(grinning) Thanks again for lending it to me.....
She paused and stood on her toes. She leaned in and kissed Lucky's cheek.
Liz:(continuing)....It was really sweet of you.
Lucky was reeling from the touch of her lips on his cheek, but managed to speak.
Lucky: Oh..uh..you're welcome.
Liz:(smiling) Goodnight,Lucky.
Lucky: Goodnight, Elizabeth.
With that Elizabeth turned and went into the house. Lucky
watched her leave and then touched his cheek where she had kissed him.
He let his fingers linger there for a moment and then smiled brightly.
Then he turned and headed home.
NOTE: Ok, in this story Lucky is a baseball fan. A Yankees'
fan actually (humor me, okay). Also, I know it is supposed to be February
and the season doesn't start till the beginning of April, but for storyline
purposes we are going to pretend that the season has started. I hope you
guys don't mind, just use your imaginations.
~I Fall So Deep~ (A song describing Liz's feelings for Lucky)
I'm always thinking about you
I wonder if you can tell
These things I'm feeling inside me
I keep them all to myself
Scared to show my true emotions
Don't want to love alone
CHORUS:
'Cause I fall so deep
You never know how far I go
And I know why hearts beat desperately
I fall so deep
Some people think love is foolish
While others think it's a game
I think that love is a fire
I'm burning up in your flame
I'm so lost in my emotions
Wanting you ever more
CHORUS
I fall so deep
I fall so deep
And I've come so close to the part
Where I reveal my heart to you
But I lose my nerve
Can't find the words to tell you that it's true
I fall so deep
CHORUS
I fall so deep
I fall so deep
I fall so deep

Elizabeth was leaning against the door. She touched her lips and smiled, still remembering the feel of Lucky's skin on them. Then she went to the window and pulled back the curtains. She watched Lucky's retreating figure. She wanted to hold this night in her memory forever. She watched until he was out of sight and then let the curtains fall back into place. She slowly walked upstairs to her room. She carefully took off her dress and placed in on a hanger. She finished changing and then went over to her desk. Liz pulled out her diary and turned to a blank page. Her mind was spinning and she wasn't sure if she could write exactly how she felt. But she was going to try.
*~Dear Diary,
I just had a wonderful night. Tonight was the dance. Nikolas
picked me up and we went together. I don't really remember much about the
time I spent with him----it was Lucky I was focused on. I'll get right
to the good parts. Lucky and I were both standing alone on the dance floor,
when Lucky was shoved in my direction. He grabbed onto my waist to keep
from falling. I was so surprised, but the feel of his hands made me shiver
with excitement. I wanted to dance with him, so I asked him. He said yes
and we did. It was so perfect. Lucky holding me in his arms felt so right--like
it was meant to be that way. I know he felt it, too. He had to. Then I
looked up at him---those dreamy blue eyes and that flawless face. I lost
myself in him---in everything I felt for him. I was so drawn to him. He
was drawn to me, too. We were leaning in for a kiss--but were interrupted!
Still, we almost kissed! He wanted it--I could see it in his eyes---at
that moment there was no Sarah---there was no one but us.....Until the
interruption, of course. Lucky let Josh cut in. I didn't get it. I thought
I had done something wrong, but now I think that maybe he was nervous and
so he said yes. I guess it is hard to say no in that situation. Then Lucky
decided to go home. He told me that he didn't like Sarah anymore. I almost
passed out from happiness! He finally got a clue! Then he offered me his
coat---God he is so sweet! We walked home and had a great time. I gave
Lucky a kiss on
the cheek. It wasn't a real kiss, but it still sent shivers
down my spine. *He* send shivers down my spine......Now I have a chance
with him. Tonight, Lucky saw me....he wanted to be with me...Tonight changed
our relationship....forever....I hope.
*~Elizabeth
Elizabeth closed her diary and smiled. *Yes, tonight changed everything between us, Lucky.* Then she crawled into bed, hoping to have dreams of him.
Lucky lay awake in bed. He had tried to fall asleep, but it just wasn't happening. Too much had changed for him that night. That night he'd let go of a dream he'd outgrown....and realized a dream that had been there all the time--Elizabeth.
~For The First Time~ (A song describing Lucky's feelings
for Liz,for the most part)
by Kenny Loggins
Are those your eyes?
Is that your smile?
I've been lookin' at you forever
But I never saw you before
Are these your hands holding mine?
Now I wonder how I could've been so blind
CHORUS:
For the first time
I am looking in your eyes
For the first time
I'm seeing who you are
I can't believe how much I see
When you're looking back at me
Now I understand what love is
Love is
For the first time
Can this be real, can this be true?
Am I the person I was this morning?
And are you the same you?
It's all so strange, how can it be?
All along, this love was right in front of me
CHORUS
Such a long time ago
I had given up on finding this emotion
Ever again
But you live with me now
Yes, I've found you somehow
And I've never been so sure
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
*I've never felt this way about anyone before. Not Sarah...not
anyone. Not like I feel about Liz. I've known her for months now...and
I never saw it. Or maybe I have always felt this way, but was too busy
obsessing about Sarah to see it.....I have always had the most fun with
Elizabeth.....felt the most at ease. Of course, I have spent alot of time
bailing her out of trouble.* Lucky paused and smiled. He was remembering
the countless things Liz had gotten herself into and the equally countless
times
he had rescued her. *She sure hasn't been the easiest
person to be with...but it has been fun. But I have never seen the side
of her that I've seen lately....A side I never really realized existed.....She's
smart, kind, caring--she has a good heart. She's everything I've ever wanted.....and
I'm just realizing it now.....suddenly.....Suddenly, she isn't Elizabeth,
my wise- cracking friend----she's Elizabeth, the girl that makes my heart
beat a little faster now....the girl whose lips against my cheek sent shiver
down my spine .....the girl I want to be with.* Lucky stopped quickly realizing
what he'd just thought. He almost couldn't
believe that he could feel that way about her so quickly.
But he knew that he meant it---he wanted to be with Elizabeth---to get
to know the real her. Before he knew what he was doing, he found himself
picking up the phone and dialing her number.
Liz:(sleepily) Hello?
Elizabeth had been awakened by the phone. She had been ripped from her dream about Lucky....and she was not too happy about another interruption. Lucky didn't answer her so she repeated it..a little annoyed.
Liz: Hello?
Lucky:(quietly) Uh, hi Elizabeth.
Elizabeth coudn't believe whose voice had answered her back. Lucky calling her in the middle of the night--she must be dreaming.
Liz: Lucky? Is that you?
Lucky: Yeah it's me.
Liz:Uh..not that I mind...But what are you calling at this time of night for?
Lucky didn't know what to say. He hadn't thought, he had just acted. He wanted to talk to Elizabeth then....he had needed to...so he called.
Lucky: Uh....I.....I....wanted to know....uh....if you wanted to do something with me tomorrow.
The words slipped out of Lucky's mouth and at first he wished he could take them back. But then he realized that he wanted to see her the next day....that he *really* wanted to see her.
Elizabeth squashed her urge to squeal into the phone. Lucky wanted to see her the next day and she couldn't have been more excited.
Liz:(Loudly and enthusiastically) Yes!....(pausing and then calmly)....I mean,yeah, sure...if you want to.
Lucky:(smiling) Great.
Liz was feeling giddy and decided to make Lucky a little annoyed.
Liz:(smiling) I meant that...that I would love to Lucky, but I already have plans.....
Lucky's heart sank at Liz's words. She continued...
Liz:(grinning).....With Nikolas.
Lucky couldn't believe what she'd just said. He clenched his fists and tried to speak.
Lucky: You have plans with Nikolas?
Liz: Yeah, I do.
Lucky: But I thought you didn't have fun with him tonight.
Liz: I didn't.
Lucky:(confused) But you still want to be with him tomorrow?
Liz: No.
Lucky:(very confused) No?.....Elizabeth, then why are you telling me this?
Liz:(smiling) To annoy you. I think it's working!
Lucky: So.....
Liz:(happily) So I would love to do something with you tomorrow and I don't have any plans with Nikolas.
Relief flashed across Lucky's face. He unclenched his fists and forgot all 101 ways he had thought of to rework Nikolas' face.
Lucky:(smiling) You know, that wasn't very nice.
Liz:(cocking her brow and smiling) Why? It's not like you're jealous or anything, right?
Lucky was shocked by her question. *If she only knew.* He cleared his throat and prepared to stretch the truth.
Lucky:(cockily) Jealous? Me?.....Of course not....Spencers don't get jealous....They just get what they want.
Lucky snapped his mouth closed as he finished the last part. *Uh oh. That didn't come out right. I should have said 'why would I be jealous.' Stupid. Stupid. Now it sounds like I want her....well I do....but that's not the point...she can't know that....not yet at least.* Lucky calmed and tried to fix his mistake.
Lucky: I...I..mean...uh...we..uh...I...no..uh --
Liz:(giggling) It's ok, Lucky. You sounded like a chauvinistic pig, but don't worry, I wasn't offended.
Lucky sighed in relief as Liz completely missed any bearing that his slip up had on her.
Lucky:(smiling) Oh, good.
Liz: So what are we going to do tomorrow?
Lucky:(thinking) Well, my dad has tickets to a Yankees' game. We could go. Do you like baseball?
Liz:(without thinking) Yeah, I love it!
Lucky:(suspiciously) You do?
Liz couldn't believe that her over zealous mouth had just declared that she loved baseball. Truthfully, she didn't know a thing about it. Only that back in Colorado they had team. *What do I do now? Ok, think. Well it's too late now, I 'have to play along. Hey, who knows, maybe Lucky will be happy if he thinks we have this in common.*
Liz: Yeah, I like baseball. The Yankees, too. We had a team in Colorado...the uh...the Colorado..uh...Rocky...uh..Mountains.
Lucky:(smiling) You mean the Colorado Rockies.
Liz:(blushing)Uh.... yeah, well, back in Colorado we call them by their full name.
Lucky:(laughing) Oh, ok fine.....Well, since you know so much, maybe I'll give you a little quiz tomorrow.
Liz:(frowning) Uh..yeah ok...sure..of course.
Lucky: Good. Then I'll pick you up at 11 am tomorrow.
Liz:(smiling) Ok. Goodnight.
Lucky: Goodnight, Elizabeth.
Lucky hung up the phone and smiled. *Tomorrow is going to be great---A whole day just me and Elizabeth.*
Liz also hung up the phone. She was excited about spending
the day with Lucky, but now she had a problem---making herself a baseball
expert by tomorrow morning. *Great. Good job, Liz. You wouldn't know a
baseball if it hit you in the head....and you make it seem like you were
born loving it.* She shook her head and went downstairs to get her Uncle
Tom's baseball book. *It's going to be a long night..(smiling and shaking
her head).....Ahhh....the things I do for Lucky Spencer.*
